My Ambitious July TBR: I Aim High

july

Hey Bookworms it’s time for a TBR! Now usually I try to do my Wrap-Up (which you can click and see) and TBR together, but I am trying to aim high with this one and read 20 books, so I didn’t want to overwhelm you guys with 34 books in one post. Hence the separate posts. Now some of these will be from my 20 Books of Summer Goal, some will be library books, that I need to read, and others will be what I am currently craving. I’ll start with the books I’m currently reading, and move to library books, and then so on! Now I may not describe them all in great detail, but as always the Goodreads links are in the title.

July TBR

1. Frostfire by Amanda Hocking

Frostfire

I am only a bit in, but I am really liking it so far! I like trolls who knew?

2. When You’re Back by Abbi Glines

When You're Back

I’m half way through and I have a few feelings and a bit of confusion, but I will wait till the end of it to decide how to address them after aka a review.

3. Princess in Waiting by Meg Cabot

Princess in Waiting

Don’t love this new reader, but the audio books are quick and easy reads. Not my favorite read of the series so far, but still funny.

4. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

An Ember in the Ashes

Yeah I didn’t do well in the readalong, but I want to finish it this month! I found the audio book on Scribd, so I’m hoping it helps.

5. Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin

A Clash of Kings

Now I don’t know if I will be able to finish this, but I hope to get the majority of it done in July.

6. There’s No Place Like Here by Cecelia Ahern

There's No Place Like Here

Another Cecelia Ahern audio book and I hope it is a good copy. My library ones have been a hit and miss.

7. The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks

The Longest Ride

The only Sparks movie I love besides A Walk to Remember. Got this as a library audio book as well, so we’ll see!

8. Blue Moon by Alyson Noel

Blue Moon

Reread for me from the library and I hope I find comfort in this couple once more!

9 Hotblooded by Nancy Holder and Debbie Veguie

Hot Blooded

Read the first book in the fall and I am eager to see what happens to these characters. It looks like I am the first to read this library book, so I am even more eager to read it

10. The Young Elites by Marie Lu

The Young Elites

Another Library book that I can’t wait to read! The synopsis makes me think of X-men so I am even more eager to read it!

11. Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor

Daughter of Blood and Starlight

I listened to the audiobook of the first. This book is huge and it’s a library book, so I must at least attempt to tackle it! I would rather listen to the audio book though since the reader is the same and I loved her.

12. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

A Court of Thorns and Roses

I am so sad that I had to cancel my Uppercase subscription for a bit (sucks being a broke college student), but in the meantime I plan to finish this in the meantime.

13. Tiger Lily by Jodi Anderson

Tiger Lily

Peter Pan retelling that I’ve had forever and haven’t read. I found the audiobook on scribd, so may half it or start it to get me going.

14. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Red Queen

I have had this since March and I’ve wanted to read it since the trailer. I waited for the hype to die down, so I am safe to not be influenced and ready to get it started!

15. Switched by Amanda Hocking

Switched

This is a reread for me, but I want to finish the series and I read this years ago! I am hoping Frostfire will spark me to finish the series!

16. Torn by Amanda Hocking

Torn

Book 2: Because binge reading can’t hurt right?

17. Ascend by Amanda Hocking

Ascend

Book 3: Because I really want to finish a series this month!

18. Past My Defenses by Wendy Sparrow

perf5.000x8.000.indd

I bought this books thanks to Judith at Bookdr3ams! It’s a werewolf book there needs to be nothing more to be said to get me to pick it up!

19. This Weakness for You by Wendy Sparrow

This Weakness For You

Sequel to the book above, so why not try and finish them both in one month.

20. Broken by Kelley Armstrong

Broken

I am determined to finish this book this month! For me summer is the perfect time to read Kelley Armstrong books maybe because it is when I read my first book by her.

That is all for now bookworms! I am not saying I will stick to it, but it will be awesome if I do! I will probably deviate from it because I am in a READ ALL THE BOOKS mood! Sadly I am not a speed reader, so that goal is probably not doable. What do you plan on reading? Do you feel your goals are too big some time? Have you read any of these? Share your feels, but no spoilers please! Happy Reading!

BEA Armchair Day 3: The Fictional People Who Have Never Left My Side (Character Chatter)

ArmchairBEA LogoExample

Hey Bookworms! It’s day 3 of BEA Armchair! I do still wish I was at BEA, but maybe one day. For now it’s blogging and watching/ listening to the ABC Family HP weekend in the background. Honestly blogging and books are one of the few things keeping me okay lately. There was two Topics for today Blogging 101 and Character chatter. Since I am a still a newish blogger I don’t feel too comfortable yet giving tips because I am still figuring thing out myself, so I am doing the latter: Character Chatter or as I call it:

The Fictional People Who Never Leave My Side

Honestly characters are the reason I read and write. They allow me to walk along side them and get away from my own problems a bit and face theirs with them. I get to be a part of their lives and they get to silently stay by mine. Feeling my tears on their pages or screen until I can find a calm once more. Their has even been times that I have cried for them wanting to hug them and ease the pain of their problems. I miss them when I reach the last page and the book is done. I think most characters are diverse. They can show you different sides of lives, but you the biggest sense of Diversity you can still relate to these characters. Do I like every character? No some characters can get on my nerves, but I can understand why. Characters wouldn’t be diverse if we liked every one of them! Now I will put the spotlight on my favorite characters!

My Favorite Characters

 1. Hermione Granger from The Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling

DH_Hermione_Granger_in_her_wedding_dress_02

She is the most loyal character I know and she embraces her brains. She is also a bit bossy which I love, but will do anything for the ones she cares about.

2. Luna Lovegood again from Harry Potter

Luna Lovegood

She doesn’t let anyone make her feel bad for her beliefs or the fact she is different. I also love how sweet she is and although she shares her beliefs she doesn’t force them onto others. We all could stand to learn how to be strong from Luna

3.Calla from The Nightshade Series by Andrea Cremer

She is just a strong character and a strong leader. She does what is best for her pack and I love how she supports her members. Again she is a very strong girl

Nightshade Series

4. Poppet and Widget from The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus

They are mischievous and playful, but again are protective of their loved ones. They won’t hesitate to let you know they don’t need to be protected. Plus their way with Kittens, their hair, and outfits, I just adore them!

My Favorite Couple

Adrian and Sydney from the Bloodlines series

The Ruby Circle

My favorite ship they are kind of a long distance couple for a bit if you think of it, and both have their weaknesses. They help each other find strength though in their choices. Plus I think they have some of the best kisses ever written!

Least Favorite Cliches

I really only have three: 1. Naming a character Hope when they are supposed to be the hope of the story. It just seems over used. There are other ways to use that name make it the meaning of their name. Hope can also mean light and other things. Play with the meaning please!

2. The overly innocent virgin: I understand waiting to have sex. Not feeling it with anyone else, but to have the character state that, or be wide eyed or scared of sex is ridiculous. Whether it’s YA or NA characters have hormones and they are going to be curious and think of it!

3. The overly perfect Male/female character: I feel this sets a bad example for readers trying to find love. I want to be able to find people similar to my book boyfriends. I don’t want the bar to be ridiculous and make me lose hope in finding my fairy tale. Give them a physical flaw or three it’s not a horrible thing to do!

Wrapping it Up

I think what makes a character well written is being able to find a facet of ourselves in them. Whether it be a sliver or a chunk. Something we like about ourselves or hate. I like feeling like the characters could walk through life with me if they were brought from the page. Well bookworms that is my BEA post for the day! Who are your favorite characters? Your favorite couples? Do you agree with my cliches? Let me know in the comments please I love to talk! Happy reading!
