Let’s Chat: Life Update and Currently Reading

Hey bookworms! I know I say this every time, but I am trying to get better at being a constant or at least regular at this.

I hope your morning/day/ evening is going well depending where ever you are. It is currently Monday morning here AKA my Sunday. I was going to wait till later to write with my boyfriend to wake up to have a writing date (just sitting with each other on Skype or Facebook messenger for an hour and writing whatever we want), but I woke up to hear about the Shooting in Las Vegas (where I live but a 20ish mins away) on the Strip it left me a little shaken, so positive thoughts to everyone in my city. I don’t want this blog to end up too sad, but if you guys can all send positive thoughts to the ones affected that’d be great.

Anywho life has been on a good patch lately, me and my boyfriend have found our way back to each other, I’ve been to Vancouver twice this year, recently for his Birthday in September and I swear it’s not  just him but every time I hit the tarmac and am officially in Canada it makes me feel at home. I love Vancouver and how I look at nearly everything and to me it feels like a story waiting to be written. Especially since it’s the kind of place where if you wanted to get away for a day or two, hop on the ferry and your there in 2 hours. Honestly it made me want to pick up historical fiction being in Victoria getting lost in the awe when we went to Craigdurroch Castle. The history and seeing the way that this building change to fit the every need that was needed from it. How can you not want to explore and adventure out in the world? I want to live in Vancouver so bad I can practically taste it. So that’s my goal in the next 2 years of my life, but then part of me starts to wonder if 25 is starting to late in life to do this? I dunno I hope not, so what I’m asking you all in the way of advice. Have any of you moved to Canada from the states or even from a different country than where you’re originally from? How did you go about doing it? I know it’s possibly gonna be a lot of paperwork and a lot of work it’s not something I’m scared of.

Also another question that I am concerned about is the use of Transit because being in my chair for 3 days was not easy on my back and hips. Here I use Paratransit a system for those with disabilities where the bus picks you up and drops you off where you need to be. It is a ride share system, so rides can tend to get on the lengthy at times, but it is my independence even if it can have it’s drawbacks, so for my Canadian readers (which hopefully I have) do you guys have a similar system that I can look into?

An update on my writing and reading life as well. I need to stop making excuses and sit down and just do it. Writing and reading used to be my escape from stress, life, it was protection from myself or whatever was currently getting at me. I’ve decided to start carrying a notebook with me and setting down an hour to write a week. No matter what it is blogging, poetry, quotes, or even my current WIP. It makes me sad I haven’t touched it in almost a year. I want my writing to leave a mark, let others know they don’t have to face it alone, or when they have to there is always a safer place to be where you can conquer other dangers along side others. Writing is coping it is letting my dark know that I am stronger than it is, or if it feels stronger I can give it an outlet. I hope I can stick to this new commitment. I feel it will help push me forward again see more of what I can do with the world.

Now that the life stuff is out of the way if you are still with me. Here is what has been keeping my literary world alive lately:

Currently Reading

1.  American Gods by Neil Gaiman

American Gods

I am really loving this book and hoping I can finish it before it’s due back on Overdrive. Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors for a reason his way of writing and his use of details, it just sucks you in.

2.  A Dog’s Journey by W.B. Cameron

A Dog's Journey

I bought this for the ferry ride for the trip to Victoria and it was perfect to keep our attention for 2 hours. It had me giggling and smiling at antics and it is just a light book that is something you can go to for ease.

3. Moon Chosen by PC Cast

Moon Chosen

Yes I am still reading this chunky thing and lets hope I can get it done before the end of the year. It is good but I’ve been quite the slow reader lately and although it makes me sad a bit, but I am try not to be hard on myself about it.

Well bookworms that’s it for now and I have finished this post now with way too many distractions as it is almost 2:30 PM. I am gonna go get dressed and go grocery shopping and face the fact that tomorrow is another work day. I hope it is an easy, quick, and as stress free for all of us as possible. I will try and get my summer wrapup done soon, so you can see what I’ve been doing besides work and sleep. I am still kinda alive.

If you want to see what few pictures I was able to get in Canada follow my Instagram and see some of my adventure. I promise when I get my new phone hopefully next weekend, I’ll be a better picture and video taker on my next adventure. Let me know if you enjoyed this post, have any advice, and of course what you’re currently reading in the comments! I miss you all like crazy. Let me know if you’re still here. Have a good week and as always, Happy Reading!

Book Talk: I’m Slumping Again and Life Updates

Life Update and Weekly Reads

Hey Bookworms! Miss me??? I know I’ve been MIA, but I’m still adjusting to the working world… Honestly my days off aren’t used for much more other than sleep and maybe a trip to the grocery store. I’m hoping I’ll have more energy this week though because my schedule got changed to 8-5 pm Tuesday-Saturday, but long story short I get more sleep and I don’t have to wake up at 3 am to get ready for work. I can’t tell you where I’m working, but it is a call center job and most days besides the cranky callers I love helping people.

As for other stuff although having a job is a good thing it may mean longer to save for my own place because I will have to pay for medical insurance now… Which also means adding to how long it takes for Grad School. Every day is still a bit of a struggle for me but I’m trying to take it day by day and week by week and trying to see some bright spots.

Like I’ve made a new friend who lives close to me and I love that she’s bookish! I can pile books on her bit by bit.

But anywho lets get on to the books. Since I probably won’t get to do a Friday Reads with my schedule the way it is for a few weeks. I decided to do a Weekly Reads, so I can still share with you all what I’m trying to read this week. So let’s get started!

Weekly Reads

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, Jack Thorne

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

This is slow reading for me because my post office held it hostage for 2 days, so I’m reading it in between resting, and I plan to read it on my lunch hour too. No spoilers please because I’m only on page 80ish.

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

A Thousand Pieces of You

This will be my audiobook listen for the bus for the first half of the week. I’m enjoying the concept so far, but very few books have left a mark on me this year with my mood, so we’ll see most books have earned a 3.5 (aka a 4 stars on Goodreads from me) I am glad I am reading it after the hype though

Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge

Crimson Bound

This will be my other audiobook. I do have high hopes for it since Cruel Beauty was my favorite of last year. Hey I can hope!

Well that’s all for now Bookworms! It is time for me to head to bed although I am a little nervous for tomorrow since it’s our first day without our wonderful mentors. I am just taking this week day by day and doing my best to help each person. Anywho have you read any of these books? What were your thoughts? Any tips for how to blog around working? Let me know in the comments down below. I need all the help I can get please! Happy Reading!

Quick Update: Why I’ve Been on Hiatus

Hey bookworms I know I’ve been missing but if you’ve been following me on Twitter I’ve posted why, but I’ve been feeling bad that I haven’t posted why on here. Long story short we had to short sale my childhood home and it hasn’t been easy on me at all. So we have to be out of here by the 21st and we’re moving into my mom’s boyfriend’s house which is on the other side of town… Again not something I’m eager to accept, but I am trying to make it through (to quote the Degrassi theme! XD) Once I get a job, I plan to move back to my city of comfort and find an apartment of my own, hopefully with a service dog of my own to help which is something else I’m trying to look into.

On the note of  a job: I’m still on the job hunt the Bureau of Vocational Rehab process is taking much too long for my taste, but it’s due to their high in take, so I understand why. I want and need to work because not only do I need the money, but I am going stir crazy! I am still volunteering at All the Same Wild and Tame. We have 2 new kitties at my location (which I will need to figure out if I need to change my hours with me having to move 3o minutes away)

Lovely Leeluwp-1457916515182.jpg

Who is turning out to be another little diva. Sweet to me when I arrive and when I leave but 5-10 minutes later she changes her mind. I’m sure she’d stay sweet if she did surprise easy though with all the noise. She is a year old and is quite sweet when she wants to be.

Bluegrass

wp-1457916503688.jpg

I’ve fallen in love with him and wish I could take him home! He is the sweetest 5 year old little boy in the world! He is content to just simply sit there, be petted, and mew greeting at you every time! I miss him when I’m not there, but I hope he finds the most loving home!

As for reading I am still in a slight slump due to being busy and my heart a little heavy with the move. I am listening to 2 audio books from the library Anne of Green Gables and Rebel Angels.

What else my mom decided to treat me to an early Birthday present which is on the 18th. She paid for me to get my hair done!

wp-1457916493017.jpg

I’m so happy to have my hair short and red again. So at least that has kept my day bright as well as cleaning my room I found my favorite childhood picture and frame!

wp-1457916463436.jpg

Can you tell how much I’ve always been a Disney Freak? I literally adore this picture and want to go back to Disneyland and take another picture  and buy another frame (even if I am sad that they took away wheelchair line privileges because people who didn’t need it abused it…) I want to go back to the happiest place on earth and take the happiness and inspiration back!

Well bookworms that is all for now I have to get ready to tackle my last shelves in my closet and pack my books. I miss you all and books! Please send positive and lucky vibes my way I need them! I hope you all are doing well and I will be back the moment I’m settled! Happy Reading!

Life Update: Is It Friday Yet??!

Fire Emblem Fates

Hey Bookworms! It’s me again! I’m sorry I don’t have a banner for my Life Update posts, but I will eventually! Hopefully… Any who this post will be about my gush for Fire Emblem Fates

which I will be picking up the retail versions on Friday! Eeep! I will be playing Hoshido first and then Nohr! I have been a FE fan since the game Sacred Stones, so  to have a new game after Awakening in which I fell in love with the Prince Chrom! He is my game husband and it is just as bad as having a book boyfriend, so I’m not ashamed!

The thing about both Awakening and Fates is both games are more immersive for the players allowing you to play and design your own character. It adds to the part about the games I love the most! The story line and the roller coaster of feels as you get more attached to characters the ones you have and the ones you gain. There is also a marriage aspect that builds character on a whole new level. So if you are a reader with a 3DS I recommend starting with these games. They have such good story line and allows you to think for and with the characters which you can’t do enough in books lately. RPG’s have always been my game of choice and the strategy part of it tests my brain as well. If I do persuade you to play the game or if you already plan to do feel free to DM on twitter for your friend code!

Other Life Updates:

I graduated University in December and I got an email saying my diploma was being mailed today! I am so relieved and I was beginning to think I filled out something wrong! I mean it’s been 2 months… Besides that I’ve started the job hunting process through the Bureau of Vocational Rehab. Sadly we don’t live in a perfect world and jobs do discriminate. This job helps find jobs and get accommedations at said jobs for people with any kind of disability whether it’s mental (depression), learning (Developmental, ADD, Dyslexia) or Physical like me. It’s great to have this tool because I want to do everything through the proper channels because I am on SSI and don’t want to ruin it if I need it later in life. Now this process can take up to 60 days after the initial applying appointment to see if you qualify which I do and did last week. My counselor is hopeful because of how prepared I was, so I’m hoping that this all goes quickly. If I didn’t stay positive my depression would get the best of me in this dragging time.

So I needed to do something to fill my time in the meantime. I’m volunteering at an Organization called All the Same: Wild and Time Sanctuary! I get to play with and love on kitties (and the menial tasks of cleaning litter boxes and feeding them) as they wait to get adopted.  Like the lovely Morticia:

wp-1455751061123.jpg

The thing I love most about this organization is that they rescue from pound and things like that. It is fun and gets me out of the house on Thursdays and Fridays. It helps me be social and gives me some physical activity that I have been missing since I finished School. It gives me a kitty fix until I get my own place and adopt my own.

Speaking of which I am also dealing with an unwanted move, so I may be a bit unavailable in March, but I don’t know when yet, so I will let you all know sooner. I am trying to focus more on the positive, which is why I can’t wait to get a job. Although I don’t know what I want as a day job, but since I don’t plan to stay in my state because there’s not much for me to pursue in my desired career choices. So any job I have in these next 2 years will be experience and hopefully lead to new friendships!

Well bookworms that’s all that up in my life right now? How about yours? Have you played Fire Emblem? Which were your favorites? How bout favorite characters? Did I convince you to play? Do you have any other advice for not going stir crazy? Feel free to comment down below and let me know! Happy Reading and Gaming!

Book Talk: Life Leading to a Reading Slump

Reading Slump and Why: Hey bookworms! I know I haven’t done my wrap-up for September nor a TBR for this month, and honestly I am in a slump. School going on in full swing now, having to deal with the … Continue reading

Quick Overall Update and Rest of June TBR

Hey Bookworms! Sorry for not posting all weekend, but it was a hard one. I am just hoping this week gets better. I feel set back after having a few weeks of being okay to say the least. It is hard dealing with depression again after 5 years of being okay, but I am trying to stay strong. Even on the good days it is still is there lingering under the surface. The good news is I am taking steps to get better and am proud of myself for getting help. I know I am not always the easiest to deal with in these time, but am extremely grateful for the few who have stuck around I am glad for the support I have found through my blogging and twitter. My readers are helping me a lot and so once again thank you! All of you! I promise my next post will have a happier tone to it.

As for the Readathon:

I got one book done because my mood has made me quite slumpy. I want to scrap all my TBR’s and move to the childhood reads I posted in my Top Ten Tuesday post. I need light and happy reads. As for the Readathon as much as I loved the hosts it wasn’t as active as I’d hoped it would be. Well it was their first time, so I am hoping it just hit some snags. A readathon should be an event where readers are cheering each other on with posts and asking what is read. I hope they do it again with more activity though! As for July I want to participate in at least 2! If anyone knows of any I’d appreciate it so much if they were shared in the comments below =)

Books I read:

I was able to finish one book: The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot

The Princess Diaries

This is a really cute and happy light book. I love that Anne Hathaway narrates and it just fits the personality of the character introduced in the movie. I do warn readers who are planning to read this that keep in mind that their are major differences. Try to set aside the movie as best as you can when you read and or listen to this book! That being said this book made me giggle and smile so much. So for those of you having a hard time at the moment I definitely recommend this book as a pick me up

I tried to read:

Thirteen Reason’s Why by Jay Asher

Thirteen Reasons Why

I had to put it down because it was triggering.  I’m hoping when I am in a better place I can go back to it.

Good Reads Reading Goal Status

Even though I am in a bit of a slump I am still ahead of schedule! In fact I have almost reached it! I am 9 books away! I have read 63 out of 72 books. I am tempted to up it, but I dunno how often these slumpy periods will hit.

TBR for the Rest of June

Now most of these will be audio books since I am a bit slumpy, one Ebook, and a few Library books, but I’m hoping to get most of these done before the end of the month!

1. A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin

A Clash of Kings

This is the second book in my Buddy Read I’m having with my Book BFF The Paige-Turner. I will be tackling some of this through half audio and half e-book to shake me out of slump

2. Hot Blooded by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie

Hot Blooded

I read the first book a while back and found out it was more than one. Lucky for me the Library had it and I plan to read it next =)

3. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

An Ember in the Ashes

My second buddy read of the month and I know I am more than a little behind my fellow readers but I hope they will forgive me!

4. The Maze Runner by James Dashner

The Maze Runner

Found the audiobook through my Scribd subscription, so since I’m having trouble reading words right now I am giving the audiobook a shot!

5. Echoes of Us by Khat Zhang

Echo of Us

This is a last book in a series and I regret waiting this long to read it! The good thing about waiting so long is you forget who you like, so are not too affected when bad things happen to them. I remember all the characters, but beside the two main characters I do not remember who I like. This will also be a half and half as well between ebook and audiobook

6. Princess in Love by Meg Cabot

Princess in Love

The next book and happily (for me) narrated by Anne Hathaway. I am adoring the lightness of this series =)

7. Frostfire by Amanda Hocking

Frostfire

Another Library book and I have only read the first in the Tyrelle series that this book doesn’t spoil the rest of the series for me. If anyone knows if it will please let me know!

8. Everneath by Jodi Ashton

Everneath

A mythological retelling and also a library book. So I want to try and get this one soon! I don’t want to feel guilty for renewing it again.

9. Blue Moon by Alyson Noel

Blue Moon

A reread from the Library for me since sadly I don’t have my own copy. This was my favorite series in high school and deals with a theme I love: Reincarnation. A lot of people hate on this series which makes me sad because they don’t push through and see reasons in the 2nd book and on.

10. The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge

The Little White Horse

A childhood comfort that I am hoping will make me feel better! I just want to fall in this book and lost in the magic of it

So bookworms that is all for this post! I hope you all managed to stick through this whole post! I just wanted to make up for not posting for so long! I missed you all! Have you read any of these? What are you planning to read the rest of the summer. Comment and let me know down below! I always love to talk especially about books. Have a good week and happy reading!

My New Toy and Mini Library Haul (Weekend Wrap-up)

Hey Bookworms! So as you know I am done with my semester! I got my grades and did very well! I got 2 A’s, a B, and a pass. I have had my Nook HD for 2 years and my warranty was about to be up, so I got myself a little something as a reward for my hard work:

wpid-20150530_112212.jpg

The Nook Tablet Samsung S4! It is so pretty… B&N had a deal of $50 off when you trade in your old Nook. I am very happy with it! It is lighter and faster. The only issue I have with it is not being able to play my Tsum Tsum game for some reason it runs super slow on it. The longer battery life definitely cancels the pouting over my game. Another plus is the charger for my Nook works in my Phone too. I am just so happy to not have to worry about something happening to my nook now that I have this one with the new 2 year warranty. I use my Nook a lot because it is easier on my hands and I don’t have to worry about my hands wearing at the pages. It is also easier on  me to carry because I am not suppose to carry weight around. I do feel a little guilty for spending a good amount of money, but I always do whenever I spend a good amount. The case was worth it to because it has a stand in the back to hold it up for a lazy reader. The camera makes Skype doable and I just adore it and earned it!

I also stopped by the Library to pick up a book I had on hold and I also grabbed another that I’ve been eyeing for a while!

1. We Were Liars by E Lockhart

wpid-20150530_161409.jpg

I’ve started this and it definitely keeps you hooked! I am definitely not bored of it yet. Only on chapter 20, but am definitely curious to what happens next!

2. Everneath by Brodi Ashton

Everneath

So bookworms, I am hoping getting books from the library will keep me frugal when I feel like buying books! Definitely going to try and stick to my unread books at home, but I know that itch will pop up with no matter how many books I have. How do you reward yourself grades? Do you ever feel guilty getting something big for yourself as a reward? I really want to be able to feel no shame because I work hard for rewards, but we’ll see… I also dyed my hair this weekend! I am a redhead again! I know my lighting isn’t the best, but I will include two pictures below. Let me know what you did this weekend! Hope you had fun! Happy reading! My May Wrap-Up will be up very soon. =)

Life Update: Procrastinating

Hey bookworms! Whatcha doing? Sorry random post I know, but I finished the first part of my Sociology Exam! Part one was multiple choice questions from all of the quizzes over the semester. I was missing a question, so I got 74 out of 75 correct! I am now currently stalling on the next part: The written part.

Why is it when you have a word count that you have to reach it makes it so much hard to hit that many words than when you don’t? When I blog my word count nearly every time I blog about books my count is over 1,000 words easily! Now writing about the sociology of aging 499 might as well be a million! Right now I have 54 words… Yay me… Another thing why do professors choose to ask about terms you’ve only seen once in the semester, and say if you are confused to look at your notes, but don’t specify which module when you have 14? This is question also applies to why is it hard to write a certain amount of pages?

I think I will take a break to play my game I am currently addicted to Tsum Tsum! I am not the best, but it is addicting! I might take a break to read as well and start again in an hour. I just wanted to ramble to you guys I guess? What do you do when Finals have you frazzled? I feel they’d be easier to get through these evil finals if I had a vacation to look forward to. Oh well I have my books to look forward to? I think I may create a TBR on goodreads to know how many books I have on my nook that need to be read. It has a feature for shelves, but doesn’t tell you the number. Yea I am procrastinating? Anywho I hope you guys don’t find this too whiny or boring I just felt like talking! It is one of my favorite things! Let me know how you deal with finals stress? How you celebrate after even if you don’t have money for a trip? Have a good Sunday and Mother’s day! Happy reading!
