BEA Armchair Day 3: The Fictional People Who Have Never Left My Side (Character Chatter)

ArmchairBEA LogoExample

Hey Bookworms! It’s day 3 of BEA Armchair! I do still wish I was at BEA, but maybe one day. For now it’s blogging and watching/ listening to the ABC Family HP weekend in the background. Honestly blogging and books are one of the few things keeping me okay lately. There was two Topics for today Blogging 101 and Character chatter. Since I am a still a newish blogger I don’t feel too comfortable yet giving tips because I am still figuring thing out myself, so I am doing the latter: Character Chatter or as I call it:

The Fictional People Who Never Leave My Side

Honestly characters are the reason I read and write. They allow me to walk along side them and get away from my own problems a bit and face theirs with them. I get to be a part of their lives and they get to silently stay by mine. Feeling my tears on their pages or screen until I can find a calm once more. Their has even been times that I have cried for them wanting to hug them and ease the pain of their problems. I miss them when I reach the last page and the book is done. I think most characters are diverse. They can show you different sides of lives, but you the biggest sense of Diversity you can still relate to these characters. Do I like every character? No some characters can get on my nerves, but I can understand why. Characters wouldn’t be diverse if we liked every one of them! Now I will put the spotlight on my favorite characters!

My Favorite Characters

 1. Hermione Granger from The Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling

DH_Hermione_Granger_in_her_wedding_dress_02

She is the most loyal character I know and she embraces her brains. She is also a bit bossy which I love, but will do anything for the ones she cares about.

2. Luna Lovegood again from Harry Potter

Luna Lovegood

She doesn’t let anyone make her feel bad for her beliefs or the fact she is different. I also love how sweet she is and although she shares her beliefs she doesn’t force them onto others. We all could stand to learn how to be strong from Luna

3.Calla from The Nightshade Series by Andrea Cremer

She is just a strong character and a strong leader. She does what is best for her pack and I love how she supports her members. Again she is a very strong girl

Nightshade Series

4. Poppet and Widget from The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus

They are mischievous and playful, but again are protective of their loved ones. They won’t hesitate to let you know they don’t need to be protected. Plus their way with Kittens, their hair, and outfits, I just adore them!

My Favorite Couple

Adrian and Sydney from the Bloodlines series

The Ruby Circle

My favorite ship they are kind of a long distance couple for a bit if you think of it, and both have their weaknesses. They help each other find strength though in their choices. Plus I think they have some of the best kisses ever written!

Least Favorite Cliches

I really only have three: 1. Naming a character Hope when they are supposed to be the hope of the story. It just seems over used. There are other ways to use that name make it the meaning of their name. Hope can also mean light and other things. Play with the meaning please!

2. The overly innocent virgin: I understand waiting to have sex. Not feeling it with anyone else, but to have the character state that, or be wide eyed or scared of sex is ridiculous. Whether it’s YA or NA characters have hormones and they are going to be curious and think of it!

3. The overly perfect Male/female character: I feel this sets a bad example for readers trying to find love. I want to be able to find people similar to my book boyfriends. I don’t want the bar to be ridiculous and make me lose hope in finding my fairy tale. Give them a physical flaw or three it’s not a horrible thing to do!

Wrapping it Up

I think what makes a character well written is being able to find a facet of ourselves in them. Whether it be a sliver or a chunk. Something we like about ourselves or hate. I like feeling like the characters could walk through life with me if they were brought from the page. Well bookworms that is my BEA post for the day! Who are your favorite characters? Your favorite couples? Do you agree with my cliches? Let me know in the comments please I love to talk! Happy reading!

BEA Armchair Day 2: Social Media and How I Use It to Reach You From My Little Corner

Hey Bookworms! It’s me again with another post for BEA Armchair! I am so excited to see how much it is bringing bloggers together. I blog best at night and on my coast at least it is still Day 2, so here I go with the Topic of Social Media!

Social Media and How I Use It to Reach You From My Little Corner

Honestly before my blog I only used Facebook to be social with the internet, Pinterest to look at pretty pictures, Goodreads to admire books, and an occasional tweet here and there. Now that I’m blogging these platforms mean so much more to me. Facebook allows me to share with friends and family I do know. This is a subtle approach to either coaxing them into reading, and/or maybe sharing with their friends who do read. It is just nice to give them a glimpse of what I’ve been working so hard on for 8 months now! Words have always been my outlet and safe haven this is the way to show them my passions have never changed. Facebook also allows me to like publisher and author pages to see new books I may not have found otherwise.

Twitter is now a place to reach out to my favorite authors! I always get excited when they favorite my tweets. It’s a place to socially get support when Participating in Readathons which I am addicted too. As well as meet and show bloggers what I am working on with the use of this ‘#’ little symbol. It is where I share my posts the most! It amazes me how quick new trends catch on. My favorite hashtag to use is #bookworms or #bookworm problems when I blog them. It lets me see who’s blogging about what if I am in a rut and lets me know I am not alone. It is also a great way to communicate with my favorite bloggers even if the character count can get in the way of actual words sometimes. It is also where I update what I am reading the most if I am away from my computer

Goodreads is a place for me to link the reviews I have done allowing me to slowly feel more confident about them. It also shows me to what my fellow bloggers are reading that I may not discover on my own. Since I don’t follow release dates it also reminds me when a book will be release when it’s on my To Read list! There is also the use of groups that allows you to find other bloggers or people that favor my genre of book.

Pinterest hasn’t changed much with my blogging, but occasionally I stumble upon some awesome posts! Tumblr has always been a bit confusing to me since I am not the most tech savvy. It always seemed the most complicate. As for Instagram one as well, but plan to fix this problem once I come into a phone with a better camera!

So if you’re curious to follow me or get a hold of me my information is on my Contact Page! Bookworms that’s it for the night! I plan to read fellow bloggers posts and plan tomorrow’s. This post isn’t late if we have the same time zone! I hope you all enjoy and happy reading!
