Movie Monday: A Beautiful Day in the Neigborhood

mm (2)

Hey Bookworms! I am back again, and I am trying to keep this momentum going through the end of the year, so lets hope I can keep it going! This movie review/talk/advice/gush, will be on a happier note than my last one. This is actually a movie, I think everyone should go see for the themes at the very least, if not for a great story. Anywho let’s get started before I start talking about everything in the intro… Hope you all enjoy!

Quick Recommendation

Before I start talking about the themes and telling you why you should see this movie, I have one thing to suggest. If you are interest in seeing this movie, I highly recommend seeing the documentary Won’t You be My Neighbor.

This will give you a little more background on Rogers and the show as well if you haven’t seen the show in a while. It is also a great prelude to the themes in this movies and takes Roger’s off the pedstal, people tended to put him on. Don’t get me wrong, he was an amazingly good and caring person, but what emphasizes the good he did was that he is human. It makes you feel more the feels and it gets you in the right state of mind before watching the movie which will give you all the more feels.

What Makes it Worth Watching

1.The cast is amazing and makes every feeling very poignant and every emotion strong. This was a movie that gave you empathy as they fell into the skin of the people before them.

2. The 90’s nostalgia from the beginning scenes, seeing the neighborhood, the computer to the clothes and cars, to skits they did in the show. My memory was kicked in and I remember sitting on the couch watching the show.

3. Relatable characters, even though this movie was set in the 90s. I found myself relating to the main couple in the story Lloyd and Andrea Vogel from both sides. I can see how Lloyd had a cynical side, quick to doubt goodness in people, and how with family life he grew up it was quick to hide his emotions.

Andrea being the balance to her husband to get him to see the good. To try and feel the what he’s been holding back. To face the past and to try and bring the family back together. Her frustration with it all as well and just wanting to connect and get through.

4. The themes: Two of them that stuck out to me most is Be Kind, whether you’re taking this from a christian perspective or just a human perspective. No matter what age we are or time we’re in, kindness is something we all need. I think the world would have been a little brighter with this.

The second thing as cliche as it sounds is embrace your emotions. This was one thing my mom real gained and realized from watching it. That she should have and would let us process our emotions more. That it’s okay to feel what we feel, and as adults, we tend to forget this.

Ending Thoughts

I really feel this is a movie for all no matter what your beliefs are in life. If you’re feeling low or lost this will bring back positive reminders and maybe even change in life. I plan on purchasing this movie and the biography whenever I need a reminder. I will leave both trailers below for you.

I hope you all liked this one, I know it was shorter, but I really just wanted to share something good with you all. Have you seen this movie? Did you see the themes I did. Did I miss any that hit you? Let me know comments down below. I hope you have an amazing week As always, Happy Reading and Watching!

Movie Monday: Adaptions I’ve Watched that I Still Need to Read: Part 2

mm (2)

Hey Bookworms this post might not get up on Monday, but I am starting Monday night so it counts! I needed to quite down my mind a bit, so I thought I’d do another one of my movie confession posts. This is a part 2 post of movie adaptions I have watched, but haven’t read yet either because I was too excited to see the movie or didn’t know it was a book! For Part 1 you can look if you want to see my how bad I am with the first 10! As for the links it will be the same as the last one the title will hold the goodreads link and below that will be the movie trailer. Hope you enjoy it! These are ones I can name off the top of my head.

1. The Secret Garden

This was a book always difficult when I was younger to finish because of it’s length. I am hoping that now that I am older I can fix that issue now that I have a better attention span

2. A Little Princess

The problem with this book it was a library book and school got in the way of reading when I was younger

3. Holes

This one was required reading when I was younger and every time I was required I rebelled. I do want to read this now though!

4. Charlotte’s Web

I remember being read part of this, but don’t think it was ever finished. So I count it as unread.

5. 101 Dalmatians

I didn’t know this was a movie till I was watching the movie one night! So definitely gonna buy it ASAP!

6. Kingsman: The Secret Service

I’m in love with this movie and want to read the comic as soon as I can!!!

7. Julie & Julia

This movie is inspirational especially the fact of how blogging helped her through her life. So I want to read this as soon as I can

8. Marley & Me

With this story the way the movie is narrated it makes me wonder if the articles have the same voice, so I need it as soon possible

9. Matilda

My favorite childhood movie, but until I got older I never knew it was a book, so I want it so bad!

10. Brideshead Revisited

This is one of my favorite movie period pieces, so I want to see how the film took from the words.

So that’s all for now bookworms! Started this post Monday, but finished on Tuesday. How are you when it comes to adaptions? How strict are you with watching films before reading. Sadly this list gets longer, but I do love most of the movies I watch. I love to live in the world of stories whether it’s a book, comic, movie, show, or game! Which of these that you’ve read or watched is your favorite? Which should I read first? Comment down below and let me know! Happy reading and watching!

April Wrap-Up & May TBR

Hey Bookworms! Here as promised is my April Wrap-up, May TBR, and some little life updates! So Let’s get started with the 9 books I read in April! 4 Novels (?), 2 graphic novels/comics, 1 manga, and 1 audio book. So I will start from what I started with at the beginning of the month to the last I finished. As always the goodreads links are in the titles because I am not the best at summaries, and don’t want to be biased to any store!

April Wrap-Up

1. When I’m Gone by Abbi Glines

When I'm Gone

Review/Retrospection here!

2. Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson's Greek Gods

This is why I had a question mark next to novel because I would list this as an anthology. I loved hearing Percy narrate this and the illustrations are AMAZING! Anyone who’s read the PoJ series I definitely recommend reading this it was a 5/5 stars!

3. Once Upon a Time: Out of the Past by Kalinda Vázquez (Text) and Corinna Bechko (Illustrations)

Once Upon a Time Out of the Past

I fangirled so much when this preorder came! It was gorgeous without the dust jacket! The pictures are on my Twitter date April 16th because I can’t get them off my phone right now, but I was a happy Oncer! That being said I do pay attention to the illustrations and can tend to be picky and they can even kill a story for me. Regina’s and Hook’s were not my favorite. Honestly I couldn’t tell she was Regina… I did like the story lines of all of them, so this graphic novel was a 4/5 stars!

4. Ceres, Celestial Legend Volume 2: Yuhi by Yuu Watase

Ceres Volume 2

This was a reread for me this was my favorite manga/anime in middle school and high school. I wish I had the DVD’s but the manga’s are available as E-books, so it’s a compromise. I won’t say much else because it was a sequel, but it was a 5/5 stars for me even if Aya got on my nerves in a few scenes

5. One Day by David Nicholls

One Day

This was my audiobook for the month and if I do break my ban it will probably be for more audiobooks! I did a short summary of what I thought in my 24 Hour Readathon Wrapup! This is one of my favorite love stories in the world though!

6. Pivot Point by Kasie West

Pivot Point

Super powered teens yes please! The review for this one is also in my 24 Hour Readathon Wrapup, but it was a really fun read that kept me guessing!

7. New X-Men Book 1 by Grant Morrison

New X-Men Book 1

I finished this Thursday and although the art work got better I got a little bored and bit confused near the end of it. I do want to keep trying with these comics though. I really want to open myself to more graphic novels and comics! I really did love Wolverine, so at least that is consistent! I gave it a 3/5 stars!

8. Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz

Blue Bloods book one

This is another reread from high school and I found myself loving Oliver all over again. I really do love the underdog characters. This is one of my favorite takes on Vampires the thought of them being fallen angels it really is interesting. Plus I have a weakness for anything that involves reincarnation. That being said growing up there were a few moments with the characters that annoyed me about them. It was a 4/5 stars, but I am definitely going to enjoy rereading this series!

9. Disney by Rees Quinn

Disney

I enjoyed it a bit at the beginning, but then it seemed like someone just copied and pasted it from the internet. I know a biography is about someone else’s life, but i feel the writer should still have a voice. It was a 2/5 stars for me.

May TBR

(Starting with my currently reading to what I want to read next!)

1. A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

A Game of Thrones

I know, I know I’ve been reading this forever! School got busy and it was a bit of heavy read, so I stopped reading it in March and April. I want to finish it when the semester is over which is next week, so I want to buckle down with it. After I finish I hope to continue with my buddy read onto the second book!

2. The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket

The Bad Beginning

I know it’s a short book, but I have some school reading to get done this weekend, so I plan to take this bit by bit and finish it really soon!

3. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

Cruel Beauty

My first audio book of the month and I’m not sure which I love more the story or the Narrator’s voice! I plan to finish it within the next week or two because I am hypnotized!

4. The Time Travelers Volume One by Caroline B. Cooney

Time Travelers

Honestly another reread nostalgia case! In the first 30 pages I found it cute, but now reading it older I find some of the characters behaviors annoying… It got a bit slow and a bit boring, but I want to push through this!

5. Out of Time by Jen McLaughlin

Out of Time

This is a second book in a new adult series I forgot about, so I reread the last bit of the first book, Out of Linebefore diving into this one. It pulled me in, but I have a few notes already in the first few chapters. I think this will be the next book I want to review!

6. Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour

Everything Leads to You

I’ve wanted to read this book since it’s release, so I’m really really hoping to read it this month! I hope it’s everything I have been waiting for!

7. The Heir by Kiera Cass

The Heir

On Tuesday I am seriously excited to feed my curiosity about this book! I can’t wait for it to come out! So whatever I am reading I am dropping to devour this!!!

I also plan on participating in Bout of Books readathon this time around to try and knock out my TBR some more! The last day for sign-ups is on the 12th. This readathon takes place from the 11th to the 17th. So next weekend I will post a TBR for that on Friday. I just am excited to do another readathon they make me feel accomplished.

So bookworms that is my wrap-up and my TBR! I am happy with my reading this month it felt more relaxed. Have you read any of these books? Do you plan to? Are you going to participate in Bout of Books? What May releases are you excited for? Let me know in the comments. Talking about books is my favorite! I will post again very soon!

WWW Wednesday: 4/29/15

Hey bookworms! I decided to do the weekly meme of WWW Wednesday hosted by: Taking on a World of Words! This is a weekly meme where book bloggers answer three W questions. What are the three W’s? I’ll list them before jumping right into it.

1. What are you currently reading?

2. What did you recently finish reading?

3. What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading

(Going from Oldest to most Recently Started)

1. The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket

The Bad Beginning

This is an old series that at the age I started at was a bit too dark for me to like. When I was younger I admit I liked the lighter fluffier stuff. Now that I’m 23 I feel my itch to finish what I started. They are short reads, so I plan to try and finish this book today or tomorrow on Scribd.

2. New X-Men Book 1 by Grant Morrison (Text), Ethan Van Sciver, Frank Quitely, Leinil Francis Yu (Illustrations)

New X-Men Book 1

As I said in my March Wrap-up I want to give all versions of X-Men a chance. Again I find myself favoring the movie franchise since the artwork isn’t my cup of tea. I am also reading this on scribd and I really want to give these a chance. Just taking a bit to distance myself from what I grew up on.

3. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

Cruel Beauty

This is my most recent on my Audio book kick and I do not regret it! The narrator is pure perfection for this story and I could listen to her voice all day. Audio books are something I listen to on the bus and before class. So I am not too far, but I am definitely sucked in!

4. The Time Travelers Volume One by Caroline B Cooney

Time Travelers

This is another childhood reread. One series I didn’t get to finish because I didn’t know the Volume 2 was ever released. I was browsing my nook one day and saw that both volumes 1 and 2 were on there. It really bothers me not to finish a series unless I hated the first book, so out of duty and curiosity I really want to see the end of it! I am only 30 pages in, but it is as cute as I remember.

5.Disney by Rees Quinn

Disney

This was a biography I bought on bookbub a few days ago. I was bored in class today, so I clicked it out of curiosity. I am a Disney girl through and through. It is only a bit over 100 pages, so I think I will finish it either tonight or tomorrow.

What I Recently Finished Reading

(I won’t go too much into this one since I will post my April Wrap-up on Friday or Saturday)

1. Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz

Blue Bloods book one

What I Want to Read Next

1. Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan

Unspoken

This was the book I got in my personalized Uppercase subscription which I promise to blog about soon, but I have wanted to read this book probably since it’s release, so I was very excited to get it!

2. Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour

Everything Leads to You

Another book I’ve wanted to read for a long while! It is on my Nook TBR shelf I created, so I want to read it asap (and hopefully do a review)!

3. Masquerade by Melissa de la Cruz

Masquerade

I’ve decided to reread through this series wanting the comfort of something I enjoyed in High School, so I will be tackling the second book soon. I never noticed but this cover is a little creepy…

4. The Heir by Kiera Cass

The Heir

This comes out on Tuesday and needless to say no matter what I’m reading when it comes out. I will drop it to devour this! I am beyond excited!!!!

So bookworms that is my WWW Wednesday! I hope you enjoyed reading it. Have you read any of these? Do you find yourself drawn back to books you read in high school?  Well that is all the blogging I can do tonight my right hand is being a hassle today… Have a good night guys and happy reading! Feel free to comment because I can still use my left hand to reply on my phone =)
