Life Update: Chaos and the Coming Days

Hey Bookworms! I needed to write something and I didn’t know what to write in this fog of sadness and pain. This isn’t just going to be about books, but about my LDR, the weather, a few points about my cerebral palsy, COVID-19, but yes I will talk about books. Let’s get started!

Chaos and the Coming Days

LDR

So first off let me start off by saying today is hard. It was supposed to be my first day with my boyfriend. I work hospitality, so when at work I receive all the updates about what we’re canceling, borders that are closing, and travel bans. When we got the notification that cancellations were happening at least until the 14th of April (it is my weekend, so I haven’t seen any newer updates since Sunday).

I knew on Saturday, I would have to change my ticket. It hurt like hell to do because at this point I haven’t seen him in 4 months.  I was supposed to leave in 2 days at that point to spend, 6 nights, and 5 days together. The most time we have spent together in a while. Not to mention this is the first time in 2 years, we have spent a birthday a part, this is what hurts the worst.

While I have a new flight booked for May with a new flexible change policy, just in case. (I am so grateful for Westjet being so helpful and understanding). I am praying this all calms down by then. My family and friends are all saying at least you are both healthy and safe, but it doesn’t mean it didn’t crack our hearts open.

I am trying to remain patient and hopeful as this is what all LDR’s are built off of. I am sending my positive thoughts out to others separated by these closures. I am trying to find comfort and not jealousy of the couples that are currently together even when it’s hard, as this is what we have to look forward to.

The Weather, Cerebral Palsy, and COVID-19

This is probably one of the few times you’ll hear me talking about my CP because although it a part of me, I try to not let it define me. I also don’t want people to assume my experience with CP is the same as another person with  CP.  Like most disabilities and disorders it is on a spectrum and has different types (which is what I hope anybody who writes about this disability includes this notes because it can set false expectations and be harmful to those who are uneducated).

While COVID-19 is affecting a lot of people with different immune deficiencies, disabilities, disorders, the young, and people over 50.  Some people with Cerebral Palsy do have weakened immune systems, thankfully, I have not been one of those people. I have only been sick at least once a year in my life if that (not including allergies), and some of those were self inflicted by being a stubborn child by and not eating when I was supposed to, often times for a full day, or weather changing rapidly.

With this extended winter we’ve been facing (the groundhog lied…), my body has been paying the price. I have been aching and swelling for weeks as the weather is on the roller coaster it is and possibly having another disability that may tie into this pain (which I can’t get checked until Fall again). I am more afraid of how my body pain is affecting me more this year than it has before than I am of a virus, because I know my body can fight it. I know I am practicing the right things, and I am trying to remain calm, because stress and anxiety can weaken the immune system.

Work

I don’t tend to talk much about work on here. Thankfully I still have work, and I am trying to stay calm and positive again. Putting money in savings and trying to be diligent. I am sending all good thoughts for those of you who can’t go to work and I am hoping my work stays consistent.

Days I am Home

On my days I have off which is a 3 day weekend this weekend because I didn’t feel it was fair to go into work on my birthday this year due to everything that went on last week. I am spending my 28th on March 18th at home, with my family, cake, books, and a movie binge. I know a lot of us are worried with the actual libraries shut down, but there is still Overdrive and Libby if you have WiFi or data access to download when you don’t have access to either.

We have each other, this blogging community, our words to reach each other even when these borders are shut down.

Want to work out, look up exercises to do at home, when I am not in pain I try to move as much as possible.

Board games, so you can keep your mind going, video games, movies and books that will make you think.

Sing, get lost in music, dance, write a poem, if your mind starts to wander in the wrong way redirect it or at least distract it.

Create don’t let your mind focus on the panic as that’s when we become our worst selves. Most importantly be kind, try not to panic buy, to help others who need the resources. This is something I stick buy as I can’t always get out due to my current state.

We are all stronger that the remenants that 2019 is holding over us. I refuse to blame 2020 for this as this started last year hence the name. 2020 is trying to teach us to be strong, calm, patient, and kind. Don’t let 2019’s left overs turn is into scared sheep.

I am going to try and practice all these suggestions, and I hope you all do too. I hope this rant stayed somewhat coherent. Happy Reading Bookworms, stay calm healthy, and safe!

December Challenge: Day 1 & 2

Hey Bookworms! I know I’ve been missing for a while, but I figured what better way to jump back in than with a book challenge! I did one last year and this one was created by the same lovely person … Continue reading

Life Update: Is It Friday Yet??!

Fire Emblem Fates

Hey Bookworms! It’s me again! I’m sorry I don’t have a banner for my Life Update posts, but I will eventually! Hopefully… Any who this post will be about my gush for Fire Emblem Fates

which I will be picking up the retail versions on Friday! Eeep! I will be playing Hoshido first and then Nohr! I have been a FE fan since the game Sacred Stones, so  to have a new game after Awakening in which I fell in love with the Prince Chrom! He is my game husband and it is just as bad as having a book boyfriend, so I’m not ashamed!

The thing about both Awakening and Fates is both games are more immersive for the players allowing you to play and design your own character. It adds to the part about the games I love the most! The story line and the roller coaster of feels as you get more attached to characters the ones you have and the ones you gain. There is also a marriage aspect that builds character on a whole new level. So if you are a reader with a 3DS I recommend starting with these games. They have such good story line and allows you to think for and with the characters which you can’t do enough in books lately. RPG’s have always been my game of choice and the strategy part of it tests my brain as well. If I do persuade you to play the game or if you already plan to do feel free to DM on twitter for your friend code!

Other Life Updates:

I graduated University in December and I got an email saying my diploma was being mailed today! I am so relieved and I was beginning to think I filled out something wrong! I mean it’s been 2 months… Besides that I’ve started the job hunting process through the Bureau of Vocational Rehab. Sadly we don’t live in a perfect world and jobs do discriminate. This job helps find jobs and get accommedations at said jobs for people with any kind of disability whether it’s mental (depression), learning (Developmental, ADD, Dyslexia) or Physical like me. It’s great to have this tool because I want to do everything through the proper channels because I am on SSI and don’t want to ruin it if I need it later in life. Now this process can take up to 60 days after the initial applying appointment to see if you qualify which I do and did last week. My counselor is hopeful because of how prepared I was, so I’m hoping that this all goes quickly. If I didn’t stay positive my depression would get the best of me in this dragging time.

So I needed to do something to fill my time in the meantime. I’m volunteering at an Organization called All the Same: Wild and Time Sanctuary! I get to play with and love on kitties (and the menial tasks of cleaning litter boxes and feeding them) as they wait to get adopted.  Like the lovely Morticia:

wp-1455751061123.jpg

The thing I love most about this organization is that they rescue from pound and things like that. It is fun and gets me out of the house on Thursdays and Fridays. It helps me be social and gives me some physical activity that I have been missing since I finished School. It gives me a kitty fix until I get my own place and adopt my own.

Speaking of which I am also dealing with an unwanted move, so I may be a bit unavailable in March, but I don’t know when yet, so I will let you all know sooner. I am trying to focus more on the positive, which is why I can’t wait to get a job. Although I don’t know what I want as a day job, but since I don’t plan to stay in my state because there’s not much for me to pursue in my desired career choices. So any job I have in these next 2 years will be experience and hopefully lead to new friendships!

Well bookworms that’s all that up in my life right now? How about yours? Have you played Fire Emblem? Which were your favorites? How bout favorite characters? Did I convince you to play? Do you have any other advice for not going stir crazy? Feel free to comment down below and let me know! Happy Reading and Gaming!

The Nintendo Book Tag

nintendo

Hey Bookworms! I saw this tag on Monday and needed to do it! As you may or not know I am a little bit of gamer. Nintendo was also my first system and before my playstation I was more than happy with my Nintendo DS! As a bookworm I love stories whether they be in books, movies, shows, but at times games are my favorite. Especially Role-Play Games because I get to be a part of the story. Anywho this amazing tag was created by the lovely booktuber: Novels and Nonsense. I will also lead her video right here:

The Nintendo Book Tag

1) NES (Nintendo Entertainment System): A Classic you want to read

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

The Secret Garden

I want to read more classics but especially children ones they have a nostalgia and safety to them. Plus this is one I always seem to get half way through, but never finish. I really like it though just need to push!

2) SNES (Super Nintendo): A Sequel you liked more than the 1st (can be a 3rd book in a series)

Princess in the Spotlight by Meg Cabot

Princess in the Spotlight

Mia really came more into her own a bit more in this book. She wasn’t the most confident still, but I feel the characters were a bit more defined in this book!

3) Nintendo 64: A book that revolutionized the way you look at the world

The Host by Stephenie Meyer

The Host

I gushed about this book in my Day 2 of my challenge post. Essentially it reminded me that some people are able to see the person.

4) Gamecube: A popular book that did not go over so well with you

The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games Catching Fire Mockingjay

Please don’t throw things at me, but this series was okay… I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it. Honestly I only read it so I would be able to watch the movies with less guilt.

5) Wii: A new favorite book

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

Cruel Beauty

Honestly this is my favorite Beauty and the Beast retelling ever. With a Beauty who isn’t 100% good. She is selfish and pursues her needs and wants as well. This book and setting was amazing to me, and the narrator’s voice for the audio book was perfection to listen to.

6) Nintendo Power: Favorite Graphic novel series or a series you want to start

Saga by Brian K Vaughan and Fiona Staples

Saga Volume One

Hands down right now it is Saga although the 4th book wasn’t my favorite due to some cliches this is an amazing series! The art is so well done and for me that is high praise because I am picky with the art style! This series is for mature audiences so if you’re not of the right age or sex scenes make you uncomfortable it may not be for you, if you are and haven’t read it… Go to the bookstore this instant!!!

7) Super Mario: A Character that you’d love to squish like a Goomba

Xavier Van Romerius from Finding My Prince by J.S. Cooper

Finding my Prince Charming

Now this question was especially hard because characters I usually don’t like either change or are the bad guys. Which hopefully by the end of the series the main character kills them. Then I thought about the one book I DNFed this year. I couldn’t even get through the first 50 pages of this very short book. The love interest turned my stomach and frankly made me want to punch him in the face. Needless to say I promptly deleted it off my nook. I probably wont buy anything by the author again and i am also sick of perfect looking characters who think it gives them the right to act like an arrogant jerk.

8) Zelda: A newer fantasy that you consider to be a modern classic

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

A Game of Thrones

Now I know a lot of people may go with this answer, but I haven’t finished reading any “new” fantasy lately. Most of the fantasy books I like are older. Game of thrones has a very diverse way of letting a reader see every side of a story and it does not hide the good the bad or the ugly. Even this one is a bit old.

9) Samas-Aran: Favorite Sci-fi novel or one you want to read

Zodiac by Romina Russel

Zodiac

The only sci-fi I have read recently or truly know. The book I am currently reading could count, but since I am unsure I am going with Zodiac. I love anything having to do with Birth signs and them all living on different planets made it even better. Now I was a little spoiled, so it wasn’t as amazing as it could be but it was still really good! I cannot wait for book two!

10) Pokemon: Book editions that you want to collect

Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

Peter Pan

One of my favorite fairy-tales and I would love to have every edition especially in HARD COVER!!

11) Donkey Kong: A book with original characters

Bitten by Kelley Armstrong

Bitten

Any book in this series and I haven’t even read them all. Kelley Armstrong creates amazing and strong characters especially females! I can’t wait to get to know them all.

12) Nintendo Fandom: Favorite Nintendo game(s) or game you really want

1. I love all the Pokemon Games, but I want to try the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon

2.What Few People know though is I have a series I hold closer to my heart who’s story line has made me feel all the feels! That is the Fire Emblem series and I am super excited for the newest one to come out Fire Emblem Fates! 2016 seems too far away!

Well that is all for this tag bookworms! I hope you enjoyed my answers! What are your favorites of these books or games? Have you read or played them? What are your thoughts on my choices? Do you have any sci-fi recommendations for me? What are your favorite RPG’s? I’m always looking for more. Let me know in the comments. Happy reading and playing!

PS: If you are looking for another tag to do there is always my Original Book BFF Tag ^_^
