Looking Back: My Top 11 Books of 2016

Hey Bookworms!

I know this is a bit late, but never late than never right? So to start off I am glad to say goodbye to 2016 both it and 2015 made my life pretty hard, but I am still here right? Well most of the important parts of me are.

Now… I am not going to lie I am pretty scared of 2017 too. I am scared of where it is going to leave me, but at the very least I am hoping it will be a year of answers…

As much as there are moments I wish I could change myself, the greater part of me knows without my body it wouldn’t have led to my love of words or my imagination or even my understanding of more. I will forever be a girl that is more than just her shell but the wolf inside her as well. An alpha female leading through.

Okay readers enough with this ranting… I guess I wanted to get those words out of my head, but 2017 will be the year I don’t hold back. As for 2016 out of the 118 books I read, these are the ones that made my lostness more bearable. Now I didn’t reach my goal of 120, but 118 is better than I have ever done. So without further ado, here they are in no particular order (except really the order I read them in…)!

Top 10 Books of 2016 that Gave Me Hope

Teen Titans: Earth One #1 by Jeff Lemire (Writer), Terry Dodson (Penciler), Rachel Dodson (Inker), Cam Smith (Inker), Brad Anderson (Colourist), Jared K. Fletcher (Letterer)

Earth One Teen Titans

This was my first peek into DC and it really caught my attention not only were the images goregous, but the story line had me. I plan to buy book 2 one I get a little farther into my TBR. I am always up for more recommendations into the DC world if you’re feeling generous.

Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray

lair-of-dreams

Words cannot truly explain how much I really love this book. I finally felt a character I could relate to in Ling. The way her powers work are the way I feel free in my writing. It let me know that some authors are brave enough to tackle every kind of character and I am forever grateful in that.

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin

The Storied Life of AJ Fikry

This book touched me and reminded me how books can bring us together and help us grow along with the people who read them. How people can open us up unexpectedly. This was one of my first reads of the year, but I definitely plan on rereading this book somewhere in my future.

Under the Lights by Dahlia Adler

Under the Lights

My love and pushiness of this book is endless. It was my heart and it would’ve saved me so much hurt when I was around 16. This book lets you know it’s okay to love who you love and need I say the kisses were amazing?! If you are curious to here more of raving on it click here to read my review

Tempestuous  by Lesley Livingston

Temptuous

Finishing this series helped me believe in love for the moment at least. The way Sonny and Kelley love made me want that connection to someone again and plus the way the author reads her own book for the audio book was one of my favorite narration of the year.

The Book of Ivy by Amy Engel

 The Book of Ivy

The plot twist and the feels in this book was one of the few books of the year to stir my emotions. I really loved how quick this pulled me in.

The Crown by Kiera Cass

The Crown

Although this isn’t my favorite cover (though my favorite dress) it was one of my favorite books of the year once I got to know Eady a bit better. I do recommend readers before reading this spin off watching The Young Victoria it definitely helped. I definitely liked who won this and how it ended.

Every Heart a Doorway by Sean McGuire

every-heart-a-doorway

The idea of this book and the magical realism it filled every part of my magical realism craving. I really am praying there is more to this series because I have more questions and need more hope.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Big Magic.jpg

I want to implement the practices of this book and even buy a copy and read it again when I can’t find the energy to write. For every creative person this is a must read book!

The Time of My Life by Cecelia Ahern

the-time-of-my-life

Is it really a surprise a Cecelia Ahern book made my list. I just wish this could really happen. I wish I could meet my life and see their state and have a little guidance in the right direction. For anyone who is feeling a little lost in life I definitely recommend this book!

The Wolf Boy is Mine by Yoko Nogiri

the-wolf-boy-is-mine

Hands down renewed my love in manga! I can’t wait till the rest of this series comes out. This is the only one that is going to be the exception to my book buying ban because I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Quick Update: Why I’ve Been on Hiatus

Hey bookworms I know I’ve been missing but if you’ve been following me on Twitter I’ve posted why, but I’ve been feeling bad that I haven’t posted why on here. Long story short we had to short sale my childhood home and it hasn’t been easy on me at all. So we have to be out of here by the 21st and we’re moving into my mom’s boyfriend’s house which is on the other side of town… Again not something I’m eager to accept, but I am trying to make it through (to quote the Degrassi theme! XD) Once I get a job, I plan to move back to my city of comfort and find an apartment of my own, hopefully with a service dog of my own to help which is something else I’m trying to look into.

On the note of  a job: I’m still on the job hunt the Bureau of Vocational Rehab process is taking much too long for my taste, but it’s due to their high in take, so I understand why. I want and need to work because not only do I need the money, but I am going stir crazy! I am still volunteering at All the Same Wild and Tame. We have 2 new kitties at my location (which I will need to figure out if I need to change my hours with me having to move 3o minutes away)

Lovely Leeluwp-1457916515182.jpg

Who is turning out to be another little diva. Sweet to me when I arrive and when I leave but 5-10 minutes later she changes her mind. I’m sure she’d stay sweet if she did surprise easy though with all the noise. She is a year old and is quite sweet when she wants to be.

I’ve fallen in love with him and wish I could take him home! He is the sweetest 5 year old little boy in the world! He is content to just simply sit there, be petted, and mew greeting at you every time! I miss him when I’m not there, but I hope he finds the most loving home!

As for reading I am still in a slight slump due to being busy and my heart a little heavy with the move. I am listening to 2 audio books from the library Anne of Green Gables and Rebel Angels.

What else my mom decided to treat me to an early Birthday present which is on the 18th. She paid for me to get my hair done!

I’m so happy to have my hair short and red again. So at least that has kept my day bright as well as cleaning my room I found my favorite childhood picture and frame!

Can you tell how much I’ve always been a Disney Freak? I literally adore this picture and want to go back to Disneyland and take another picture  and buy another frame (even if I am sad that they took away wheelchair line privileges because people who didn’t need it abused it…) I want to go back to the happiest place on earth and take the happiness and inspiration back!

Well bookworms that is all for now I have to get ready to tackle my last shelves in my closet and pack my books. I miss you all and books! Please send positive and lucky vibes my way I need them! I hope you all are doing well and I will be back the moment I’m settled! Happy Reading!

WWW Wednesday: The Books That Have Kept Me Company in my Slumpy Mood…

WWW Wednesday

Hey bookworms! I know this is a late-ish post, but I just finished an assignment a bit ago and felt I could use some fun. I also know I haven’t done a wrap-up in forever, so this will let you all know what I have actually finished reading. So what is WWW Wednesday? It is a weekly feature hosted by Taking on a World of Words in which we answer three questions:

1. What Have You Recently Finished Reading?

2. What are You Currently Reading?

3. What Do You Plan on Reading Next?

Recently Finished

Faking It by Cora Carmack

Faking It

This is the only book I have finished this week, I have finished 3 other audiobooks in the last week, but I didn’t want to stretch. I thought it was an okay story and I might have liked it more with different narrators, but it was just too quick of an attraction for me! So this was a 3.4 out of 5 stars for me because I did appreciate the message near the ending.

Currently Reading

1. Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer

Wolfsbane

This is my audiobook reread of the week and I am really enjoying the revisit of my reread. I think I am enjoying it more this second time!

2. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

I’ve been reading this between assignments to give my brain a break. I have been highlighting and loving the small things I find in this reread.

3. This One Summer by Mariko Tamaki, Jillian Tamaki (Illustrator)

This One Summer

I noticed this was on Scribd, so I thought I would read this tonight because it’s a light read and I’ve wanted to read it forever, so I jumped on it!

What’s Next?

1. The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell

The Wolf Wilder

I had to put this one down for a bit but I want to get back to it because I really want it to have a happy ending and review it for December!

2. Alias Hook by Lisa Jensen

Alias Hook

I am on my last renewal for this one, so I really want to try and finish it before Tuesday wish me luck!

3. Tease by Sophie Jordan

Tease

Honestly I don’t care for the narrator, but I want to finish the series and I don’t have much time to read print lately.. I am hoping the read is worth it.

4. A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray

A Great and Terrible Beauty

This is the credit I used for November so I will try to get to it by the end of the weak! I am excited to start something by this author and maybe it will push me into reading The Diviners!

Well bookworms that is it for tonight and I finished it while it’s still Wednesday. Have you read any of these? What were your feelings or favorites? Link me your WWW Wednesday and let me know in the comments! Happy reading and to my US readers have a fun and happy Thanksgiving!
