Hey Bookworms! I am trying to be productive this weekend by getting some posts done for you to read during the week, and like I’ve said I’ve missed you all. I’m doing a Top Ten Tuesday for those of you … Continue reading
Hey bookworms time for my first review of the year! I promise one day I will feel more confident in doing these and figure out how to make time to do these in my work life, but there was some … Continue reading
Hey Bookworms! I promise one day I will get better at this. By “this” I mean blogging and working, or even expressing myself creatively. I also plan on writing a scene today for my story. It’s just working in a call center and staring at screen all day does not make it easy to want to come home and stare at a computer, or sometimes have the energy with 2 hour bus rides at times. I also am going to get glasses even if I don’t want to, I’m hoping it will help my creative and work life plus hopefully will kill the headaches… I wonder if writers that used typewriters had these problems? But anywho onto the to the topic at hand what I read last month!
The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion
I gave this book a 3 out of 5 stars although most of it was enjoyable Rosie’s behavior pissed me off and sometimes hit too close to home. It was a great listen though and the narrator kept my attention.
The Accident Season by Moïra Fowley-Doyle
I was accepting this to be more paranormal, but it ended up being more of a magical realism book which normally I love, but this one I guessed the plot twist early on and thus it made it a 3 out of 5 stars for this one as well.
Symptoms of being Human by Jeff Garvin
This book helped me find my need to write and express myself and it was a really inspiring story of self acceptance. I give this one a 4 out of 5 stars!
Born Wicked by Jessica Scottswood
This whole first book felt too rushed from the love triangle to the way it ended. I did like the parts that kept me guessing and it did make me curious to give book 2 a shot. I don’t know how soon though. I gave this one a 3 out of 5 stars.
A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron
It was a really sweet endearing novel that made me love my dogs past and present. It gave me hope. I really wanted to cry when reading it, but I think so many people telling me I would made it hard to. Overall since the last bit dragged I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars.
The Game of Love and Death by Martha Brockenbrough
For fans of The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (which by now I hope you all know by now is my all time favorite book), while we all hopes she will write a sequel, this book will fill your cravings for a similar book. It is another game with 2 players who seemed doomed and yet destined. I also loved the personification of love and death as humans. They weren’t what you usually think of when you usually think of those figures. There were parts where it lost my attention near the end though, but I loved the use of music and singing in the audio book. I really recommend it, and I gave it a 4.3 out of 5 stars.
Bright Smoke Cold Fire by Rosamund Hodge
It makes me sad to say especially because I was so looking forward to this book, but it was my first DNF of the year. It was just every one seemed weak in this book not strong enough to fight their own battles. I gave it a 2 out of 5 stars because the concept still intrigued me.
Rain is Not My Indian Name by Cynthia Leitich Smith
This was a cute and sad coming of age series. It was about not only accepting grief but also also accepting yourself and your heritage. I though it was truly sweet and I think I would’ve enjoyed it more younger. It was a 3 out of 5 stars.
Well bookworms that is what I read in January. What did you start 2017 with? Let me know in the comments down below. I miss you all and I promise at some point I’ll figure out a work and blogging life. In the mean time I will try to post as often as I can. Anywho hope you all are reading good things! Happy Reading!
(Banner By: James Fenney) Hey bookworms! Since I left off my last post with the books that made last year better, I wanted to share with you some of the books that will be accompanying me into the new one. … Continue reading
I know this is a bit late, but never late than never right? So to start off I am glad to say goodbye to 2016 both it and 2015 made my life pretty hard, but I am still here right? Well most of the important parts of me are.
Now… I am not going to lie I am pretty scared of 2017 too. I am scared of where it is going to leave me, but at the very least I am hoping it will be a year of answers…
As much as there are moments I wish I could change myself, the greater part of me knows without my body it wouldn’t have led to my love of words or my imagination or even my understanding of more. I will forever be a girl that is more than just her shell but the wolf inside her as well. An alpha female leading through.
Okay readers enough with this ranting… I guess I wanted to get those words out of my head, but 2017 will be the year I don’t hold back. As for 2016 out of the 118 books I read, these are the ones that made my lostness more bearable. Now I didn’t reach my goal of 120, but 118 is better than I have ever done. So without further ado, here they are in no particular order (except really the order I read them in…)!
Top 10 Books of 2016 that Gave Me Hope
Teen Titans: Earth One #1 by Jeff Lemire , Terry Dodson , Rachel Dodson , Cam Smith , Brad Anderson , Jared K. Fletcher
This was my first peek into DC and it really caught my attention not only were the images goregous, but the story line had me. I plan to buy book 2 one I get a little farther into my TBR. I am always up for more recommendations into the DC world if you’re feeling generous.
Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray
Words cannot truly explain how much I really love this book. I finally felt a character I could relate to in Ling. The way her powers work are the way I feel free in my writing. It let me know that some authors are brave enough to tackle every kind of character and I am forever grateful in that.
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin
This book touched me and reminded me how books can bring us together and help us grow along with the people who read them. How people can open us up unexpectedly. This was one of my first reads of the year, but I definitely plan on rereading this book somewhere in my future.
Under the Lights by Dahlia Adler
My love and pushiness of this book is endless. It was my heart and it would’ve saved me so much hurt when I was around 16. This book lets you know it’s okay to love who you love and need I say the kisses were amazing?! If you are curious to here more of raving on it click here to read my review
Tempestuous by Lesley Livingston
Finishing this series helped me believe in love for the moment at least. The way Sonny and Kelley love made me want that connection to someone again and plus the way the author reads her own book for the audio book was one of my favorite narration of the year.
The Book of Ivy by Amy Engel
The plot twist and the feels in this book was one of the few books of the year to stir my emotions. I really loved how quick this pulled me in.
The Crown by Kiera Cass
Although this isn’t my favorite cover (though my favorite dress) it was one of my favorite books of the year once I got to know Eady a bit better. I do recommend readers before reading this spin off watching The Young Victoria it definitely helped. I definitely liked who won this and how it ended.
Every Heart a Doorway by Sean McGuire
The idea of this book and the magical realism it filled every part of my magical realism craving. I really am praying there is more to this series because I have more questions and need more hope.
Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
I want to implement the practices of this book and even buy a copy and read it again when I can’t find the energy to write. For every creative person this is a must read book!
The Time of My Life by Cecelia Ahern
Is it really a surprise a Cecelia Ahern book made my list. I just wish this could really happen. I wish I could meet my life and see their state and have a little guidance in the right direction. For anyone who is feeling a little lost in life I definitely recommend this book!
The Wolf Boy is Mine by Yoko Nogiri
Hands down renewed my love in manga! I can’t wait till the rest of this series comes out. This is the only one that is going to be the exception to my book buying ban because I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Well bookworms those are all the books that left a mark on me last year? Which books left a mark on you? Which are you too excited for the continue in the next year. Leave me links or just comment down below and let me know. I hope you are all having an amazing start to this new year! Happy Reading!
Hey Bookworms! I’m baaack! It’s time for a Movie Monday post which is one of my features in which I talk about, fangirl, or review my favorite shows, animes, and movies. And if you can’t tell from my extremely long … Continue reading
Hey Bookworms! See I told you I’d have another post for you. I really do miss this community, so I’m going to try and commit my weekends more to blogging for you all. I hope you all miss me too.. … Continue reading
Hey bookworms! I promise I will learn the swing of work and blogging soon. It’s just hard to be on the computer on my weekends, when that is what I do all day for work. Good news is I plan on getting glasses soon, so that should make being on it for work and home easier.
But anywho I thought it would be fun to show one of the benefits of having a job. Which is treating myself to stuff like my addictions every once in a while. So here is what I treated myself to in September!
Saga Volume 6 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples
Citrus Volume 5 by Saburo Uto
The Fangirl Life: A Guide to All the Feels and Learning How to Deal by Kathleen Smith
There is an interesting story with these first three… Well not funny exactly I originally ordered copies of these in March, but they were shipped to my old address and never got forwarded… I hope who ever is living there is enjoying the books, so I had a coupon and decided to get them all over again. I am sure they are worth it though.
Twilight of Avalon by Anna Elliot
The Isle of the Lost by Melissa De La Cruz
The Game of Love and Death by Martha Brockenbrough
The Boy and the Beast
If you’re curious about this movie I did do a review on this movie which I gushed for… Here
What a Girl Wants/Chasing Liberty
Laws of Attraction
So if you haven’t figured it out I have a movie addiction on top of these movies I also bought a movie binder that holds 400 DVDs… Yeah I was a little bad, but most excluding the first were $10 and under! So no regrets… For now XD
Lastly I bought this adorable and super soft Umbreon pillow pet at the Tokyo Discount store near my house. He is one of my favorite eeveelutions and I couldn’t resist buying him. Now if only they had an Espeon then I would have my favorite Pokemon Ship. May they will one day.
I’m doing good at savings, but sometimes when I’ve had a hard day at work small things such as books or movies on sale makes it a little better. Working at a call center isn’t easy as a first job, but it is teaching me skills I can carry to a job I feel passionate about. There are rough days, but there are also days where I really like my job. It is a stepping stone to what and where I want to be in life.
Have you read or watched any of these? What is your favorite pokemon? What do you indulge in when you’re feeling stressed. Let me know! I miss you all and now I am off to schedule some more posts for you all! Happy Reading and Watching!
Hey Bookworms! I’m baaack at least for this post… I’m still trying to figure out how to use my weekends for work. I’m tired because of how busy the work week has been, but I’m hoping it calms down in … Continue reading
Hey Bookworms! Miss me??? I know I’ve been MIA, but I’m still adjusting to the working world… Honestly my days off aren’t used for much more other than sleep and maybe a trip to the grocery store. I’m hoping I’ll have more energy this week though because my schedule got changed to 8-5 pm Tuesday-Saturday, but long story short I get more sleep and I don’t have to wake up at 3 am to get ready for work. I can’t tell you where I’m working, but it is a call center job and most days besides the cranky callers I love helping people.
As for other stuff although having a job is a good thing it may mean longer to save for my own place because I will have to pay for medical insurance now… Which also means adding to how long it takes for Grad School. Every day is still a bit of a struggle for me but I’m trying to take it day by day and week by week and trying to see some bright spots.
Like I’ve made a new friend who lives close to me and I love that she’s bookish! I can pile books on her bit by bit.
But anywho lets get on to the books. Since I probably won’t get to do a Friday Reads with my schedule the way it is for a few weeks. I decided to do a Weekly Reads, so I can still share with you all what I’m trying to read this week. So let’s get started!
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, Jack Thorne
This is slow reading for me because my post office held it hostage for 2 days, so I’m reading it in between resting, and I plan to read it on my lunch hour too. No spoilers please because I’m only on page 80ish.
A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray
This will be my audiobook listen for the bus for the first half of the week. I’m enjoying the concept so far, but very few books have left a mark on me this year with my mood, so we’ll see most books have earned a 3.5 (aka a 4 stars on Goodreads from me) I am glad I am reading it after the hype though
Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge
This will be my other audiobook. I do have high hopes for it since Cruel Beauty was my favorite of last year. Hey I can hope!
Well that’s all for now Bookworms! It is time for me to head to bed although I am a little nervous for tomorrow since it’s our first day without our wonderful mentors. I am just taking this week day by day and doing my best to help each person. Anywho have you read any of these books? What were your thoughts? Any tips for how to blog around working? Let me know in the comments down below. I need all the help I can get please! Happy Reading!
