Belated Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Characters I’d Like to Check in With

Hey bookworms! Sorry this is a bit late, but I’ve had a very busy week. I will tell you what is happening in a later post because I don’t want to jinx anything, but it’s all been good news! I … Continue reading

30 Day Reading Challenge Day 20: The One that Makes Me Muffle My Giggles

30 day reading challenge

Hey bookworms! I hope your ready to talk about a happy subject. It is always good to laugh and I am not at all afraid to laugh out loud when reading. I am not ashamed because laughing in public or in the car can always start a good conversation. Books do bond us all together. So let’s talk about the book that makes me get lost in a giggle fit.

Day 20: A Book That Made You Laugh

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

The Lightning Thief

I love Percy’s sense of humor and sarcasm throughout this whole series. The fact that his mouth gets him into trouble makes it even more funny. Rick Riordan showing kids that they can use their disadvantages as advantages. Along with friends Percy shows even young we know what is worth fighting for. Riordan’s characters are definitely diverse and has an interesting take on mythology. Even if this book technically a middle grade you can enjoy this series at any age. It is definitely a book to read if you are having a bad day because it can always be worse like being chased by a creature 5 times your size and trying not to be smote by Gods! Well that is all there is for this post Bookworms! What books have made you laugh out loud in public feel free to let me know! Happy Reading!

The Ruby Circle

This book was the perfect wrap-up for the series and some interesting reveals for the VA series that will leave you in shock! I love the strength and love in the book. 9. The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern

10. If You Could See Me Now by Cecelia Ahern

Honestly it was the sweetest story. It had harsh and sad parts, but it was needed to appreciate the sweetness. It also had amazing magical realism. Now most of these books will be half or all listened to via audiobooks through my Scribd subscription. Are any of you doing this challenge? If so what books, are on your list? I would love to know! Happy reading!

#Rainbowthon TBR

Hey Bookworms! I hope your weekend went well! Today’s post is about another Readathon I plan on participating in. I didn’t get too active in the last one. I just had a lot going on, so I only got 4 books read. I will probably do a wrap-up for my readathons together at the end of this one. Any who this read-a-thon is hosted by a group of lovely booktubers: the carpe librum girls! I will leave Riley Marie’s introduction video here:

This readathon starts on Monday the 15th and goes to the Monday the 22nd. Now the goal of this readathon is based on the colors of the rainbow based on the color of your book spines. You can either do all 6 colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple (You can double up on 2 colors on one book); or you can do all 6 books based on one of these colors ! Now I am gonna bend the rules a bit because 3 of my books will be e-books, so I have to do it based on cover color for those! Anyway this is my list plus one extra color of pink even though it is my least favorite color XD As always the links for the goodreads will be in the titles if you want to check one out!

#Rainbowthon TBR

Starting with Physical copies

1. Pink (My Extra color): The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot

The Princess Diaries

I saved the last part of this audio book for this readathon. Plus because I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow and needed something to listen to on the bus!

2. Blue: The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows

The Orphan Queen

I really need to finish this by tomorrow or Tuesday when it’s due. I am 50 pages in, but I am hoping with the cheering on each other aspect it will me push through my bad attention span moment and enjoy this book because I can’t renew it this time!

3. Red: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas

A Court of Thorns and Roses

My next Uppercase book is being sent tomorrow, so I also want to attack this and get through this one too! I hope it is as good as the hype.

4. Yellow: An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

An Ember in the Ashes

My readalong for this book starts the 17th so I am just hoping to read some of this over the readathon.

5. Green: The Maze Runner by James Dashner

The Maze Runner

I’m serious about it this time! I want to read this one and the next before The Scorch Trials comes out!!

6. Orange: The House of Hades by Rick Riordan

House of Hades

I know it only has a little orange, but I don’t have many orange books and I really want to finish this series this summer!

7.  Purple: Lady Knight by Tamora Pierce

Lady Knight

This is the last book in the series and I want to see the end of it. I love Tamora Pierce, so this will be a quick and fun read!

So that is my list bookworms! If you plan on tweeting use: #Rainbowthon and feel free to tweet me: @CKReads! Are you plan on participating? What do you have set to read? How do you feel about readathons? Link and comment down below and good luck to those who are participating! Now I’m off to bed because I have to get up earlier than normal. Happy reading!

An Original Book Tag: Book BFF Tag (Created by Me!!)

Hey bookworms! How are you all! So I was struck today by an idea to create a book tag! I’ve never done this before, so I hope my questions make sense and are fun. I am nervous to put it out there, but maybe it will go far!

The Book BFF Tag!

1.Setting the Example: A pair/group of book bff’s that you love

Rose and Lissa from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Rose and Lissa

2. Childhood Bestie: Which book character would you have like to grow up with

America Singer from The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

The One

I know most people find her annoying, but I adore her and her talents and wit. I would also be a 5 and we could play duets together!

3. Frenemy: Which book character would bring out your competitive side?

Annabeth Chase from the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series by Rick Riordan

Annabeth Chase

She is just super smart and I would be competitive on who knew more mythology!

4. Fashion Guru: Who would be the bestie whose closet you’d want to raid or would you want to go on a shopping spree with?

Eadlyn Schreave from The Heir by Kiera Cass

The Heir

I know I know this is part of the selection, but technically I consider it a spinoff series. She designs her own clothes! I am short and would love her to design clothes for me that are more appropriate for my age.

5. The Bad Influence: Which character would you want to commit a small act of rebellion with? (go skinny dipping, sneak into a movie, have a drag race with, etc.)

Kami Glass from Unspoken by Sarah Reese Brennan

6.Blood Brothers: Which character would you want to be your surrogate big brother/sister? (You can do both if you want)

Eddie Castile from The Bloodlines series he is in VA too, but is much more prominent in this series. He is always there for Sydney and he makes me giggle!

7. Mother Hen: Which character would you want to be by your side when you’re having a bad day to cheer you up?

Kelsey from The Tiger’s Curse Series by Colleen Houck

Tiger's Curse

She would make me cookies and we could watch movies. Have a girl day!

8. The Counselor:Which character would you go to for relationship advice (or) confide a secret to?

Stevie Rae from The House of Night Series by PC and Kristin Cast

She has always been on of the truest of the nerd herd. She always gives good advice and is there for all her friends. I know this series was a long one, but she stayed true the whole time. The last few books bugged me but I overall have a soft spot for this series it brought me really great friends!

9. More than friends:Who would be your book bf/ gf (if you like both genders you can choose one of each, but only one choice per gender!)

Kishan Rajaram from the Tiger’s Curse Series again by Colleen Houck

Tiger's Quest

I know I know 2 characters from the same series, but I am really picky with book bf’s. He is my heart really as much as a fictional character can be especially in the last 3 books. I feel like he would truly see me and see the beauty behind the disability. Yes I am in love don’t judge

As for a book gf: No girl has really caught my eye or broken the mold or made me want to put them anything farther than the friend zone but things can change ^_~

10. Tag some Book Buddies!

1. The lovely young ladies at A Fangirl’s Opinion

2. Niki Hawkes at The Obsessive Book Seller

3. Analee from Book Snacks

4. Jenny Duffy from The books, The Art, and Me

5. Christine from Girl in the Pages

6. Hayley from Hails Hearts NYC

7. Sierra from TheBookSpook

8. Cristian from The Bookish God

9. Samantha from Thoughts on Tomes

10. Anyone else who thinks this seems fun!!!

You guys don’t have to do it, but It would make me happy if you did! If you decide to do the tag don’t forget to tag me, so I can see your answers please. I am so excited to have created this tag! Hope you have fun with the questions. I even had trouble answering them. My lack of variety either proves commitment to my favorite books or my need to read more… I choose both XD Hope you enjoyed this bookworms! I know this is two posts in one night, but this one has been one I’ve been working on for weeks. I just wanted to get it up when it was done! Happy reading!

Top Ten Tuesday: My Top Ten Favorite Authors

Hey bookworms! So I finished my project with time to spare which means I have time to work on a Top Ten Tuesday post! This is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that has various fun themes with 10 answers for each blogger to give their answers to. I love viewing these each week, but with the end of the semester coming up I’ve missed a few. The ones I have been able to work on have been scheduled when I can. I’m hoping after the second Week of May I can post more because then school is done for the semester! Woo! Anywho let’s get onto this week’s theme! All the links for the authors will be links to their sites

My Top Ten Favorite Authors

1. Kelley Armstrong

Yes I talk about her loads, but seriously her world building leaves me in awe! I love her character and her personality. I’ve only read 7 of her books, but I her character make me feel better always provide comfort. Maybe it’s because they can kick my problems butt and protect me if they were real.

2. Richelle Mead

She is one of the authors that have been with me the longest again it is her characters that pulled me in. I have only read The Vampire Academy and the spinoff the Bloodlines series, but I bought Gameboard of the Gods, and hope to read it as soon as I have the time.

3. David Nicholls

One Day

I don’t read a lot of contemporary fiction, but I feel he portrays instances of life realistically. I feel I can connect to these characters really well. I am not a totally mushy reader lately, but I feel he has become a comfort read and plan to read his book US over the summer.

4. Cecelia Ahern

PS I love You

One of my few contemporary Adult authors of choice. Again she shares the same qualities as Nicholls where I feel her characters handle situations realistically although in Love, Rosie a little frustratingly. I definitely want to read more of her.

5. Tamora Pierce

She is my favorite fantasy writer and my first. Yes I read her before Harry Potter and she gave me my introduction to strong female characters! I would probably read her grocery lists!

6. JK Rowling

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

It is her story as well as her writing that pulls me to her. I want to read her new book on writing. It may be my end of semester gift to myself. She makes me believe if her and Harry survived hardships, so can I.

7. Julie Anne Peters

Lies my Girlfriend Told Me

She writes amazing LGBT stories and even touches on rough subjects. She has the right way of leading readers into the hard stuff. She really connects you to the subject

8. Cornelia Funke

Her setting and her closeness to character and her use of back story. I just her and want to read more of her

9. Andrea Cremer

Nightshade Series

Another author that got me through high school. I love wolves, and i like love triangles and she gave each boy a chance. I really want to give more of her books a go because she seems like a wonderful person on top of her writing who deals with issues I feel myself suffer with from time to time.

10. Rick Riordan

The Lightning Thief

His characters and the way he uniquely uses learning disabilities in the PoJ series as a positive thing was amazing. I like how he never made it the same for every character and for authors writing about any disability I think it is important to make it clear that not every case is the same!

So bookworms those are my picks! Do you like any of these authors? Will you gravitate towards an author if you know their own back story. There is more I could put, but I am struggling with my slump and school doesn’t allow me to read much lately. So I hope to add more authors to my favorites list. If you know an author with a good story let me know! Feel free to nudge me towards good books as always. Have a good week and I plan to have more posts up very soon! Be safe bookworms and happy reading! =) If you are dealing with the end of the semester hang in there we can do it!

The Chocolate Book Tag

Hey bookworms! I saw this tag on What More is Tomorrow’s blog and the tag was created by the booktuber, A Daydreamer’s Ramblings and immediately knew I had to do it! Maybe it’s because it was because I was craving chocolate all week? Which I finally got with some dark chocolate gelato! =D Anywho this seemed too fun to resist, so I hope you enjoy my answers.

1. Dark chocolate: a book that covers a dark topic

Flowers in the Attic

For right now I would have to say my belated guilty pleasure… Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews. Now if you don’t know this book deals with themes of incest and child abuse. Now if you can get over these two subjects the way it is written brings you into investing in these characters right away. The journalistic style had me constantly having to remind myself it was fiction. If you can look past the incest you can see the themes that this book brought awareness too which is why I defend liking it. I call it a guilty pleasure because I want to see what the rest of the series entails and what happens to the Dollangangers.

2. White chocolate: your favorite lighthearted/humorous read

The Lightning Thief

Definitely the Percy Jackson and the Olympian Series series by Rick Riordan I just love Percy’s personality and he constantly makes me giggle!

3. Milk chocolate: a book with a lot of hype that you’re dying to read

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon this book and the show have both gotten huge amounts of hype, but it is biiiiiiiiiiig! So I am hoping to get to it as soon as the semester ends. It is definitely not easy to tackle big reads in April when everything is due for my classes!

4. Chocolate with a caramel center: a book that makes you feel all gooey in the middle while you read it

Stardust by Neil Gaiman I listened to this last month as an audiobook, and I think there are certain books that touch more when your older! Because when I was in high school the all the little details confused me deeply and it went over my head, but now at the age of 23 it made me melt!

5. Wafer free kit kat: a book that has surprised you lately

I really haven’t been surprised lately in the last few years (recommendations if you want to fix the problem for me please!), so I will just go with the last one that did:

Tiger's Destiny

Tiger’s Destiny by Colleen Houck just what happened to the characters in this I was not ready for…

6.Snickers: a book you are going nuts about

I haven’t read a book lately that I’m fangirling over, so I will put my most anticipated release of this year:

The Heir

The Heir by Kiera Cass I love that the series is continuing! I will not put more than because I do not want to spoil anyone who wants to start this series.

7. Hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows: a book that you would turn to for a comfort read

Blood and Chocolate

Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause! I have mentioned this book before and it’s not exactly a sweet read, but it reminds me of a sense of pack and why I connect with wolves. It is also the book I’ve read the most: 16 times!

Now I do want to tag one blogger: The Paige-Turner, but I want to see more people do this because I do love chocolate! Comment down below and let me know if you have read any of these books or have a suggestion for a book to surprise me please. I hope you enjoyed this post bookworms and I will be posting again soon!

Birthday Month Book Haul!

Hey Bookworms! I know I said I have major TBR shame and this post is adding more shame! I noticed though I had a little extra money and life has not been easy on me lately and feeling a little under the weather, so I thought I would cheer myself up with books! I also wanted to showcase the book that my book buddy (who is the best Paige from The Paige-Turner!  So here are the few books I’ve bought in the past few days. I can’t say the whole month because at the beginning of it I gave into the 2.99 section on the Nook section and my nook doesn’t keep the new on the books I haven’t read yet like it use to. Which is bothersome because that is how I knew what was on my TBR which is why I created the shelf on my nook. Anywho onto what I got and bought!

Birthday Books!

1. The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black

The book I got from Paige!

The Darkest Part of the Forest

2. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

Dorothy Must Die

This was one I bookbub posted to let me know it was on sale for $2.99 and having read The Wizard of Oz in February I couldn’t resist!

3. Pokemon Black and White Volume 2 by Hidenori Kusaka and Satoshi Yamamoto

Pokemon Black and White Vol 2

I definitely devoured this one and enjoyed it more than the first!

4. Pokemon Adventures Volume 3 by Hidenori Kusaka, Satoshi Yamamoto

Pokemon Adventures Volume 3

I’ve definitely become addicted to these mangas!

5. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Red Queen

One book I could no longer resist getting! I have seen the hype love the premise and needed it!

6. Jet by Jay Crownover

I have books one and three and this one was $1 off. If anyone has read this series can you tell me if they can be read as stand alones please!

7. Exquisite Captive by Heather Demetrios

Exquisite Captive

I’ve wanted this book since it’s release! Aladdin is my favorite movie and Once Upon a time in Wonderland made me curious to know and read more about genie myths!

8. The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride 1) by James Patterson

The Angel Experiment

Book I was suggested in Creative writing because my book deals with escaped experiments. Never read but don’t want to sound like I stole this idea so need to read it ASAP!

9. The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

One of the books I have (read and loved) but it’s not with me so I bought a copy on my nook! Good thing too because we’re going to read the first chapter for my creative writing class because we’re going over beginnings! So if anyone asks that was my reason!

10. The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

The Blood of Olympus

Bought this so I can marathon the last two in the series sick of people talking about it and accidentally revealing spoilers without meaning to. I just want to finish and fight the spoilers!

11. Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson's Greek Gods

I think this is told by Percy and I love his voice! So I couldn’t resist! Plus the cover is gorgeous! So yes I bought it plus I love learning about mythology and the world Riordan created!

12. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

13. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

14. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by JK Rowling

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

For these three I’ve been craving a reread of this series, but it’s hard for me to carry physical copies and I also am missing the second one! I love the happiness they bring me and the first one was on sale, so I bought the first three! Harry was also one of my first book boyfriend’s! I could drown in those green eyes and I need to be pulled in and reminded that other people have overcome bad times (even if fictional) and so can I! These were my last buys of the night! I promise!

So bookworms those are the books I splurged on! Break starts after this week, so I am hoping to read more and finish some books I’ve been reading forever! After this month I am trying to stick to audiobooks, library books, and preorders. This isn’t to say I won’t go crazy when they are on sale or I have an itch ( and buying the last 4 HP books!), but I want to be in love with reading again. I feel like a growing TBR is pressure. I will post again soon and hopefully a bit on break! I hope your weekend went well and your week goes great! If any of you are waiting for spring break too we can make it! If you’ve read any of these feel free to comment down below no spoilers please! Which do you think I should read first?
