Resolutions for 2018: For Blogging, Reading, Writing, and Life!

Hey bookworms! I know this may be a little early to write this as at this moment it’s only the 10th of December, but that’s what scheduling posts are for right? And if my ideas change I can edit before this goes live. Once it goes live, I have to commit, right? Well at least try my best to. I really want to get back into the community and get the hand of scheduling posts again, so this will be good practice! Anywho before this intro gets too off track, or reveals the resolutions before I get a chance to jot them in some semblance of order, lets get started!

Blogging

As you guys can tell, 2017 was a little hectic and I’ve been more than a little absent, and too be honest I miss the community and support I’ve had from you in my life’s many ups and downs, both on here and through twitter. I want to come back to the community who kept me going for so long. So here are my goals to bring me back to you!

1. Post at least 2-3 times a month!

I know at this moment it seems impossible, and I’d be okay and not guilt myself if I’d only post once.

2. Write 4 Book Reviews

I know I’ve said I’d write more reviews before, but I really want to not only to become more brave, but to turn my analytical, creative, and critical thinking (basically the English Major) part (s) of my brain back on. The monotony of work is starting to make me feel dull.

3. Scheduling is key!

I want to to utilize the scheduling tool on here to post more, to take some of the stress and confusion of what to post. I think it will also force me to write my ideas down and not give up on them so easily.

4. Comment on More Blogs

Being apart of the community again doesn’t mean just sharing my voice it also means hearing so many of your great voices and thoughts.

5. Share More of My Media Thoughts

This means more movie and show posts, maybe a game post here and there. I really want grow to be more diverse with my blog.

6. Do Some Kind of Wrap-Ups

I feel like wrap-ups are some of the most productive posts. It also allows you to take a look back on progress you made and what’s touched you most, because even stuff that doesn’t end up being your favorite still leaves a mark

Reading Goals

1. Read 90 Books

I hit my goal of 80 and that’s a lot lower when I was in school. I’m trying to tell myself that is a decent amount and to be proud of myself. I feel 90 would be even better. I’ve already read more than I thought I could.

2. Read More Mysteries

I am slowly breaking out of my scaredy cat shell and reading more stuff I normally wouldn’t. I would love to see how far I could push myself before the fear kicks back in. Plus I have a curious mind and most of the time I catch the plot twist before it’s revealed. I want to see if a mystery can get me before I get it.

3. Read More Biographies/Memoirs

This is another genre I want to dip my toes in a little more. It’s nice to hear peoples vioces as they tell the story of their lives

4. Do a Reading Challenge or at least attempt one

tmp_RAfcFP_08fcdf300d296fed_PS17_11_1_ReadingList

Honestly a few of these are way too out of my comfort zone to want to attempt but it will be fun to do some of these

5. Participate in a Readathon

This is another part of rejoining the community through social media. To get to know all you guys again.  I would love to do RYBSAT or Dewey’s but we’ll see what happens.

6. Read 10 Paper Copies and 10 E-Books

I don’t know if you’re aware but my main source of reading this year has been audiobooks and I’ve missed other sources and writing notes to myself, tabbing good parts, etc.

7. Read a New Release

If I was more confident I’d put 3 but I’m so bad at keeping track of release dates, so if I get to the one I have my eye on I’ll be proud of myself.

8. Read a Book by an Author I’ve Never Read Before

Whether it’s a new author or just someone I’ve had my eye in. I want to get to know someone new.

9. Read a Classic

I feel like a bad english Major student for not reading more of these. I really want to pick up Jane Eyre, or more Dickens. We’ll see if this happens =P

10. Finish a Series

What series I have no clue, but I’d like to finish one. See characters grow from the beginning to end.

11. Knock 10 Books off my TBR

Honestly my TBR is getting a little intense, but I know myself and I know I’m not going to stop buying anytime soon. I know I don’t buy as frequently as I once did, but if I could knock some books off the ones I own when I treat myself I won’t be as bad. That and I still have a pile of free stuff from RT 16 that are calling my name

Writing

1. Write Weekly

Whether it’s a poem, quote, or a scene I want to set up a time at least once a week for me to get back into my calling

2. Use My Writing Prompt books

I bought 2 this year and I haven’t touched them. I don’t know if I want to write in them or use a separate notebook but I don’t want to let them go to waste!

4. Read a Book on Writing

I want my creativity to grow again and I think I need some help. I am okay with that as I can’t take classes at the moment

5. Watch TedxTalks on Writing

This will give me the feel of a class and even allow me to take notes. Plus it’d keep my attention and will allow me to pick multiple brains a day.

Life

1.  Eat out only once a week

I know this will be my hardest goal, but I do want to do it. I want to save more money and this is a small way to do it

2. Put Money in my Savings at Least once a month

I want to start rebuilding my nest egg again which will not only allow me to move, but allow me to travel as well.

3. Find  and Get a New Job

Honestly I need more of a challenge in life and a job where I feel I can grow. As much as I lobe my coworkers I feel it’s time to leave my first job and leave my mark on a new one

4. Travel to 3 Places

I was able to acheive this goal this year and it was one of the few things that helped keep me sane

5. Exercise 3 times a week

To be honest, I fell off this wagon a few times this year, but I want to keep it this year

6. Look into what it will take to move to Vancouver,Canada

I fell back in love this year and yes it’s scary, but it wasn’t just with a great guy, it was with a great city. I fell in love with a city. I felt my creativity want to sing again. Yes, LDR’s are hard. Second chances are risky, and even riskier is moving out of state, but I feel I can’t live my life wondering. So I am going to take the steps to get me closer to this plunge.

7. Audit a Class

Hopefully a new job will give me more time and energy to pursue this and I think I want to dive back into getting an AA in French, Business, or Hospitality. All 3 could help me towards a day job I could love. I miss school, and I honestly would adore having multiple degrees.

8. Look into Therapy

Although my depression hasn’t hit it can and that scares me. I do miss having a neutral party to speak to. I miss not feeling judged.

9. Not Feel Guilty about Treating Myself

I work hard and deal with a lot of stress and don’t want to feel bad for buying anything from a plane ticket to a new game or outfit. I’m not talking about a shopping spree just a small item every month or so.

10. Keep Positive

There is a lot going on in my family life and although it seems like the hardest thing to do. I don’t want to let it break me. I want to stay positive and bring it to the others in my life.

Well bookworms these are all the resolutions I have. They may be a lot, but it’s always good to aim high and feel proud of whatever I do accomplish. Do you have any resolutions? Do you think I’m crazy for having this many? Do you have any tips on how to accomplish them. Did you do a post on your resolutions or goals? Let me know in the comments below with links and help me start my goals off right.  And as always happy reading and hope you all are having a good week!

Book Retrospection: Once Upon a Time: Red’s Untold Tale by Wendy Toliver (My 1st ARC Review)

Red's Untold Tale

Once Upon a Time: Red’s Untold Tale by Wendy Toliver

Publisher: Kingswell

Publishing Date: 6 October 2015

Format: Digital ARC Copy Received From Netgalley

Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Opening Thoughts:

Hey bookworms! I finally did it! I got an ARC to review off of Netgalley! To make it even better it is based off of one of my biggest obsessions Once Upon a Time! I was more than excited to review this, but a little anxious as well because I’ve never reviewed an ARC before. That being said there will be as spoiler free as possible I say that because you can never truly be too careful. So I hope you enjoy and that my review makes sense. My review will start with what I enjoyed and then onto what threw me off when reading it that led to a 4 star review.

Reasons I Couldn’t Put it Down

  1. Satisfied a Craving: So going into this book I was more than excited to start especially because the show has been on hiatus. So this filled my craving for the show without needing to binge watch the show. Plus you get a peek into Ruby’s life at a younger age and seeing the bond between her and Granny in a whole new light!
  2. Characters Who Leapt from the Pages:The characters in this book were very strong and very well developed from Red to the little boy who begs her for cookies.
  3. Transported Me With Its World: Another strong point in this book was seeing into the story book world without it being Snow, Regina’s, castle. This book shows the life that makes this heroine what spurs her on for adventure. It helped me escape the stress of city life at school and transported me to not only a different time but a different place. I could practically smell the trees.
  4. Mystery and Magic: From the wolves, to Red’s Cloak, to the Wizard she found who was my favorite character. I loved the way it kept me turning the pages to find out more.
  5.  Anyone Can Enjoy It: Last but not least I liked the fact that you don’t have to be a Oncer fan to enjoy. You could simply be looking for a retelling on Red Riding Hood and still enjoy this book! Honestly when I have the money I am supporting this book by getting my own digital copy as well as the paper copy!

Things that Threw Me Off

Now I will admit I am not sure if I had issues with some of these things because it was an ARC copy and how it was formatted, so my thoughts may change when I get a real copy, so they aren’t major negative things.

  1. Point of View: So I wasn’t expecting it and it threw me off. This being a Once Upon a Time book I was hoping for more of a story telling narrative, but it was a first person narrative. It was a little jarring at first, but near the end I feel it was needed
  2. Dreams and Memories and Current Day Dates: I feel I can link this together quite easily because they all had the same effect of the story. They threw me out of it abruptly or disturbed the flow. There wasn’t really a break between the dreams and the memories when coming back to Red’s current world at times because they would just make an immediate slip back into the present. That being said her days that had dates came out of nowhere at times within the chapters. They were not chapters themselves but were in the chapters themselves which was confusing at times especially when I was torn between reading and sleeping. If they flowed better I would’ve gladly stayed awake to finish it off. That being said as I claimed above it could have just been the formatting of reading an ARC.

Wrapping It Up

Well bookworms I was glad to have started this as my first ARC. It was a content I already knew I loved and when not getting distracted by the issues above it went by quite fast. This book is more aimed at the younger audience but any age can truly enjoy this. If you’re curious about it but haven’t watched the show you can pick it up because there were no spoilers to the Once plots. That being said that’s it for now? Do you watch Once Upon A Time? Who is your favorite character? Which is your favorite fairytale? Did I convince you to pick it up? What was your first ARC you reviewed? Let me know down below and I’m always up for constructive Criticism! Happy Reading!

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I’d Love to See Hypnotize Me on the Big Screen

T10 2

Hey Bookworms! Sorry for another late post, but my computer has decided to have issues today. It is getting older and I think it heard that I want to replace it, so I think it is rebelling against me… Any who today’s post is another Top Ten Tuesday post a weekly meme in which we are given a theme or question and must respond with the top 10 books that correspond for us! This meme is hosted by the lovely blog The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s question is what Top Ten books would you like to see come to life on screen as either shows or movies? I am going to do 5 Movies and 5 Shows! At the end I will also include my favorite adaptions. So let’s get started!

Top 5 Books I’d Love to See Hypnotize Me on the Big Screen: Movies

1. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus

Anyone who knows I love this book knows how much I want to theme everything after this book! I would love to see the magic come to the silver screen and I would even love to be an extra as a Rever! I think a few more years and special effects could make this book an amazing movie! I think the HP set designers would make the tents lovely!

2. Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly

Revolution

I think this would be a really touching and interesting piece to see on screen. The themes would really come through strong and maybe bring a few tears forth

3. If You Could be Mine by Sara Farizan

If You Could be Mine

Honestly hits a lot of topics especially about accepting yourself this would be another movie to break your heart, but a movie you could connect with the characters with.

4. Everything Leads to you by Nina LaCour

Everything Leads to You

I think this would be beautiful and cute story to see and make you melt as well as give an inside to movies. I finished this recently and loved it!

5. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

Cruel Beauty

I don’t think Beauty and the Beast gets enough adaption to screen because Cinderella mostly dominates retellings and I loved this world and would love to see a not perfect heroine who is not all good come to life on screen.

Top 5 Books I’d Love to See Hypnotize Me on the Big Screen: Shows

1. Vampire Academy and/or Bloodlines by Richelle Mead
Vampire AcademyBloodlines

I know the movie flopped (even if I thought it was awesome) I’d love to see the school aspect and my favorite characters on screen especially Adrian!

2. The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

The SelectionThe EliteThe One

I know this is optioned for a movie, but it would be so much more fun to see this as a show. We’d get to know the characters better and get to feel more. Get to see the little details more intimately.

3. House of Night series by PC and Kristin Cast

Marked

I know many people don’t care for how long this series is, but I think as as a show they can focus more on the major plot points plus it is another school atmosphere I’d love to explore.

4. Raised by Wolves Series Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Raised by Wolves

I didn’t liked the last book, but I would love to see Bryn’s life in the pack and all the details. Plus I love werewolves a werewolf book had to make it on my list!

5. Paranormalcy Series by Kiersten White

Paranormalcy

I would love to see Evie’s life in the agency and her interactions with those she captures! As well as discovering who she is

My Favorite Adaptions

1. The Bitten TV Show

I just am sooo in love with this series and it is my not so guilty pleasure! So Happy it got signed for season 3!

2, Howl’s Moving Castle

The book has more world building to it and has a slightly different setting, but both are adorable to be engrossed in. It has a beautiful world!

3. PS I Love You

I read the book after and I know the setting is Americanized, but Ahern was on board with it I think the tragedy in this movie still played out beautifully! Plus it has Gerard Butler need I say more? ^_~

Well bookworms those were my choices. What were yours? Link me yours down below. What are your favorite adaptions I am always looking for more movie recommendations! I just can’t do scary. I know this is up a little late, but technology wasn’t my friend today. Hope it will be nice for my upcoming posts! This post did inspire me to write something similar to this topic. So look for that on Monday! Happy reading!

Weekend Wrap Up & Bout of Books Goals & TBR

Hey bookworms! Happy Mother’s Day to you who are celebrating it this weekend! This weekend has been a busy one for me, so I stalled on my Sociology exam. I have to do it tomorrow, so yay… I also plan on starting my Theory exam on Monday and hoping to finish it by Wednesday because I want to turn in my textbooks by Thursday! So if I don’t post much next week it’s because I am trying to earn my down time! These are times where being so hard on myself for my grades is a pain… Anywho since I may not be posting a lot next week I thought I’d let you all know what I got to reading and finishing this weekend before I get into my Bout of Books Goals as always links to the Goodreads and sites are in the titles.

Weekend Wrap Up

Finished: 1 Novel & 3 Graphic Novels

1. The Heir by Kiera Cass

The Heir

Okay, so I finished this finally and I wasn’t going to review this originally, but once I got to the last 100 pages and that end I feel I have to! This will have spoilers because I just need to talk about it! So if you want to know what I felt and which boys are my top choices look forward to it and I will try to have it up by Friday night!

2. Pokemon Adventures Vol. 4 by Hidenori Kusaka & Mato (illustrator)

Pokemon Adventures Volume 4

This got a 5 out of 5 stars and I adored it! I am becoming more of a pokemon lover from these Mangas it gives me more of a story than the games. What can I say I love a good back story and already want more of them!

3.Pokemon Black and White Vol. 3 by Hidenori Kusaka

Pokemon Black and White Vol 3

This one got a 4 out of 5 just was a little too quick at the end and before the gym battle. I did like this because I love N, White, and Black is slowly becoming one of my favorites. This gen is one of my favorites and favorite game story line just don’t like how short these ones are!

4. Pokemon Black and White Vol. 4 by Hidenori Kusaka

Pokemon Black and White Vol 4

Again the shortness and the cliff this one ended on led me to a 4 out of 5 stars. I definitely recommend the Black and White mangas for anyone who loves Pokemon and needs a quick read to break things up for any readathon or are in a slump!

In The Middle Of:

1. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

Cruel Beauty

I wish I could’ve gotten more done on Thursday waiting at the Doctor’s, but I forgot my headphones. I got to chapter 11 which means I have 16 chapters to go! I love the concept and the hints that are given as they are beginning to play out. I also love the use of Greek Mythology! I am excited to finish, but will be sorry to see it end, and would love to find more with this narrator!

Bout of Books Goals&TBR

BoB13-200x200

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 11th and runs through Sunday, May 17th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 13 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

For those of you who didn’t read my WWW Wednesday I am very happy to say I will be participating in Bout of Books! I am excited and nervous to do this for the first time, but hoping to get a lot of reading done! So depending on how much I am able to get done on my Literary Theory Exam each day until Wednesday my goal for this Readathon is 5-7 books! Now besides finishing Cruel Beauty, 2 of my currently reading that I listed last week on my WWW Wednesday, and a few graphic novels I hope to get at the library on Monday this is my TBR for the week in no particular order:

1. A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

A Game of Thrones

If the readathon helps me get anything done I hope most of all it helps me finish this!

2. Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan

Unspoken

This was the first book I received in my personal Uppercase subscription box and I really want to finish this one before my next one comes in!

3. Behind the Scenes by Dahlia Adler

Behind the Scenes

I know I am normally not a big contemporary fan, but the summary from the sequel seemed interesting when I requested it from Netgalley. Thing is I did not know it was the sequel when I requested it, so I have to start with this one before I can read and review the second one! I hope it is an interesting and quick read!

4. Under the Lights by Dahlia Adler

Under the Lights

This is the one that pulled that the synopsis made me hit request before ditzly clicking request before checking to see if it was a number in a series. I am excited though to be reviewing my first book from Netgalley!

5. Beyond Neverland by Heather Killough-Walden

Beyond Neverland

I read the first book a few years ago, but Peter Pan is my favorite fairy-tale and I will read any retelling. Summer to me feels like the perfect time to read this!

Well bookworms that is my TBR for this readathon! I hope it isn’t too ambitious, and that my goal isn’t too crazy! I really did enjoy the vibe of my first readathon. It gave me a sense of pride and I am hoping this one does the same! If you guys are participating feel free to tweet me: here! I hope you all are enjoying your weekend and mother’s day! Now I am off to bed, so I can rest before tackling my Sociology Exam! Be safe and happy reading! I wish you all the best of luck!

PS: For all you Boy Meets World fans even if you don’t watch Girl Meets World I encourage you to watch Season 2 premiere on the 11th all week at 8 pm. Why am I plugging this? I love Will Friedle (Eric Matthews) and I recently found out this is the first time he has been back on screen because of his struggle with anxiety! He is such a brave person and after watching a youtubers support of him and finding this out I want to support him to. I have been struggling with issues myself and Boy Meets World has got my mood better! I will include the videos for you to decide yourself. Tweet during the episodes with #ProudofWill. I feel we all need support especially when chasing our passions! We are all human afterall =)

Let Spring Break Begin!!!

Hey bookworms! I am free!!! Well at least of my on Campus classes! I still have to do a post for my online Sociology class on Sunday, but I don’t have to stress about stuff due on Monday! It feels so good to not wake up stressing about the million things to do. I am in my last year of University well at least in my undergrad, and I put more pressure on myself to get A’s! I want to get the most out of my classes especially my creative writing class! So unlike some people who get to go away for break… I am a little disappointed to say my plans to go away for my last one didn’t work out as planned, but that’s life. *shrugs* Instead, I am going to travel the best way a college student can without going anywhere! How is that do you ask? With books, movies/ shows, and my new video game! So in case you’re curious about what I plan to read, watch, and play I’d thought I’d do a blog post! Plus I plan to also fill this break with blogging and writing for my next workshop submission which is due on Thursday. So, bookworms, even if this break will seem a bit lazy to most people who get to venture out I am going to try and keep productive!

Books

So I’ve already finished two books since the first day of my break which was yesterday, and it makes me feel AMAZING! I’ve been in a huge slump since the semester started, and maybe because I haven’t found anything we’ve read in class too interesting. You would think that since they bored me they would have spurred me onto want to read more for fun they had the opposite effect. Since the reading was not something I looked forward to, they take me forever to read and by the time I finish it’s time to get ready for bed. So now that my Theory Test due date was moved I plan to spend spring break to read purely for pleasure! Here is what I read and plan to finish/read for break.

Recently Finished:

 1. Pokemon Adventures Volume 3 by Hidenori Kusaka, Satoshi Yamamoto

Pokemon Adventures Volume 3

Honestly my brain was on break on Wednesday in class. I couldn’t focus at all, so while I tried my best to participate I was reading this in class. I know horrible, but I couldn’t help it! I finished it late Wednesday, and it was a great way to start break! I gave it a 5 out of 5 stars!

2. Unleashed by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguié

Wolf Springs Chronicles

This book was one of the few I got at the Las Vegas Valley Book Festival! It’s a paperback which means I have to be careful with it because of moments when my hands sweat badly. So I’ve been reading it off and on since October! I know forever, right? It’s not that it didn’t keep me interested, but life gets in the way! So this book was the first novel I wanted to finish over break, and I don’t regret it. Well… Maybe a bit because it’s part of a trilogy… Which of course means I want the other two! I rate it a 4 out of 5 stars and will talk more about why in my wrap-up!

Spring Break TBR

Now I know I have talked about the first 4 for the last few months, but again I blame my slump! So I really plan to dig into them, and get them read over break! The rest are ones I’ve been dying to read, so I am so excited to devour them!

1. A Game of Thrones By George R.R. Martin

A Game of Thrones

2.  Bitten by Kelley Armstrong

Bitten

3.  Hood By Emma Donoghue

Hood

4. Eat, Pray, Love By Elizabeth Gilbert

Eat Pray Love

5. One Day by David Nicholls

One Day

6. The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

7. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

Inkheart

8. Everything Leads to You by Nina Lacour

Everything Leads to You

9. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

What I Plan to Watch!

1. Doctor Who

Doctor-who-logo-nine

Okay now if you read my Valentine’s Day post you know I am a Whovian! Now for break binge watching Doctor Who on Netflix will not only be for pleasure, but I also plan to use it for my final project in my Women Traveler’s class! Using my favorite companions as the travelers I am doing my project on. I’m on the fence though about using my blog for this project, so if anyone thinks using my blog for this is a good idea let me know please!

2. Once Upon a Time

Once_Upon_aTime_promo_image

I am a huuuuuuuuuuge Oncer it is one of my favorite shows and I know I will watch it as normal, but it deserves a mention! I can’t wait till Sundays and am more than happy it’s back on!

3. Boy Meets World

boy-meets-world-photo

Well since I can’t go anywhere for break I plan on buying the DVD’s off of amazon to compensate! This show always makes me feel better even when it makes me feel the feels! So yeah the book buying ban starts, but to make myself feel better I am buying movies… Yes I have a problem…

4. Wolf’s Rain

Wolf-s-Rain2861341-1024-768

This is one of my favorite animes! I love anything with Wolves and I think this was one of my first animes. I own all the DVDs and feel I need to feel the feels of this anime again. It might get me in the mood for working on my story that involves wolves in a way. So I think this deserves a binge as well!

5. Any of My Gerard Butler Movies

Gerard Butler Wallpaper @ Go4Celebrity.com

So here is a fact about me Gerard Butler is my number one celebrity crush, and he even has his own section in my DVD case (I have a big album type thing because I feel actual cases take up too much room)! He is just perfection that only gets better with age. Like I said above since I’m not going on break I am splurging a bit on DVD’s most of them GB movies! So to make up for the fact that I won’t be able to spend break visiting my bf (timing and schedules suck, but there is hopefully more trips to come!)… I plan to distract myself with Gerry’s eyes and oh so yummy accent…

My Game

Tales of Xillia

tales-of-xillia-logo

I got this book for my birthday for my PS3, so I’ve only been playing it for a bit, but so far loving the story line! I love that you get to choose between the two main characters whose story line you get to follow. I love RPG games I guess it goes hand and hand in loving books because I love a good story line. I am not the best gamer because the PS3 is the first big game system in a while, so I am not the best gamer, but I try.

So bookworms those are my spring break plans! If you are on break, what do you plan on doing? If you already had break, what did you do? Have you read any of the books I mentioned or do you plan to? Are you part of the fandoms mentioned above? Are you an anime lover who has any good ones to share? What system or games do you like to play? Who is your celebrity crush?  If you guys want to see what movies I buy let me know if you want to see a haul! Have a good weekend and fill it with fun! Sorry if this post was long I just am trying to perk myself up about the perks of staying home for break. So I hope you guys like at least some of this post.
